Got weird message saying there’s portal problems..”which we are working to resolve asap”
Wonder how many extra calls the michigan admissions office has to answer because they decided to call “deferral” as “postponed”, even though they are synonyms.
Does everyone that gets deferred have to write a short essay?
It’s been that way foreverrrr
It was EA
Deferral for Engineering (OOS 1560 SAT 3.98/5.28 GPA lots of leadership and lots of volunteer hours)….disappointed but not surprised due to OOS admissions rates being so low
Deferred OOS. Economics…3.9 UW, 1530/34 on the scores. Good, but perhaps not “next level” ECs (sports, music, volunteering, internships). Disappointed but Onward.
Congrats. Legacy hasn’t been counted since like 2017 or so. Thrilled she has positive other choices.
Deferred OOS, LSA, 4.0 UW, 1410 (low for OOS), 12 APs, solid ECs. Not surprised, pulling her application from Michigan as she has a couple schools she really likes. Good luck and congratulations all!
D26 got deferred, OOS, Ross, 94 UW, 99W, 33 ACT, IB diploma, 4APs. Did anyone get into Ross?
Sorry, didn’t mean to imply I thought it was still a factor in decisions. I only said that as sometimes when kids of alumni are accepted they get the snarky “you’re a legacy” response from their friends, implying that it wasn’t their hard work or accomplishments that earned them a spot at the school. I’ve seen this happen IRL and wish people wouldn’t make assumptions based on zero understanding of how the process works. Why do people have to rain on someone’s parade, how hard is it to just say congrats?!
Deferred =Postponed.
I have no clue why they use the words interchanging.
Anyway. Congratulations to those that got in. Now you’re all in the RD group regardless when you started this journey.
Will there be another wave next week?? I don’t know. Michigan is changing their own rules this year.
In RD you go to April for a decisions unless they change their own rules. I am getting a feeling that will happen.
But the results are now denied, accepted or wait list. Wait list you usually find out in mid June. I have known people that got off the wait list and are graduating this year. But it’s a hard road to go down.
If it was me and you can cleanly afford the school, I would stay in the race and play the game. But really look and love some of your other choices also. Get excited about someplace you might already be accepted for. If it happens then you have another choice to make.
Our family rule was no acceptances (didn’t happen), then gap year or community college), if one acceptance. Congrats that is where you are going and anything more then one acceptance. Now you have a choice. They only applied to schools they would each love to attend. Did they have some rejections. Of course. But each loved the schools they ended up with.
There is a saying on here. Love the schools that love you back
Good luck.
I agree. My son got in but yes his mother went there in the 80s. Did it help? My answer is always the same. I sure hope so.
… But he also had the grades and ECs and amazing essay etc.
I wish people IRL were more kind. I always tell people on here to congratulate whomever gets in anywhere. Lot’s of student’s/families find out the hard way who their good friends really are.
I wish your child the best.

D26 got in LSA, OOS, 1520/34, 5.26, leadership, volunteering, awards in music, speech &debate and others. Applied EA
Thanks!
Thanks. Sorry about the technical issues. That sucks.
Realize UM is a longshot but the technical issues on notification day is just a bad look for them. Still see no info in portal
I am just a volunteer. One day I will get stock options or something…LOL.
We go through this yearly. I have been through it with my son. He never expected to know before April. He applied EA. He got in during that time frame. Regardless when someone applies the only constant is that you will know in April. If you know prior then that is great. I have stated several times that is what will happen if the students keep their applications in. But they can take theirs out at any point. This is why I stated above to start looking at other schools but keep your application live. I am sure there is something like 75,000 application so far. It is basically luck to get accepted these days. But i have known many that recently graduated and all have loved the school and had jobs that you would expect. All had amazing and creative 4 years. The school supports their students is all I can say.
But it’s tough to wait it out. I get it.
