University of Michigan Early Action / Early Decision Class of 2030 Official Thread

Waiting is part of the game. And technical issues happen. But in my opinion (not that anyone asked), communication all along could have been better. It’s a little crazy that the best info is coming from Instagram comments by Michigan’s admissions team…

Agreed. They have been a dumpster fire for the ED folks especially.

Portal has…rebooted? The ED postponement has now become EA postponement - so deferred 2x and moved into the RD pool. :person_swimming: Guess “still in the game” isn’t terrible but not something to pin your hopes on at UM. A few other classmates have been accepted. Kiddo’s taking it in stride and focusing on other good options for now.

Well usually one big batch. But since there was an EA early wave this is something Michigan has done in the past. Not to get anyone’s hopes up but it’s really up to them to accept people earlier. All they tell you is that you will know by April.

In theory, around half the freshman class is still in play here. But like I said with the RD gates open there could be around 100,000 applicant’s. Don’t take any of this personally. It’s sorta luck at this point if you hit all their perimeters.

Good luck.

So.. I get asked this a lot. Do you even “need “to do the Loci? Michigan tells you it’s optional. The reason they have it is years ago they told applicant’s after EA they need to make a decision. Not to send anything else but mid-term grades. This letter didn’t go out to everyone. Some people panicked. Some students they didn’t want their midterm grades. Some they did. So what happened? Like everyone sent in letters like a Loci that the AOs didn’t request. Wanna piss off an AO? Send them more things to look at they didn’t request. So at some point like 5 year’s ago they made the Loci avaliable just like GT and many other schools have. This was to feed the need to send in more information, updates awards /achievements and send in midterm grades. Some applicants swear that is what got them in and others get in without doing any of this. So is it worth it?

To me it is. Knowing you did everything you could of to apply. Your best shot. No regrets.

When one of my kid’s was applying to Northwestern there was something that was “optional “. I called without mentioning my kids name if it “needed “to be filled out. She said “it’s only optional if you make it optional “. That stuck with me.

For an original ED applicant who’s now in the RD pool - UM is their top choice - so they’re a pretty sure bet to accept an RD offer if it comes. This is the first ED year and I’m hoping the original EDers fare well in RD!

Just so people know there is a free essay reading service on CC. I was just notified that one of the student’s I helped got in EA and one got in ED. Maybe just luck but for future families if you don’t have this at your school or someone to help out. We are here to help.

Another parent here, similar stats, Ross 1510sat, 95uw/97w… deferred, have heard of no Ross ea admits or rejections, maybe they are holding mostly everyone to regular? I have not seen any Accepted Ross student posts either :).

My son got in EA for Engineering (Mechanical). Intl student 1480 SAT and 4.0 UW. His ECs and essay are probably what got him in. Spent a lot of time designing and building drones using industry software like SolidWorks, CFD Flow simulation, presented his personal 3D printed drone project in one of the largest engineering conferences in the country, professional certified in SolidWorks CAD, built and drove solar powered Go-karts, national competitive debater, engineering internship etc. He is super happy to be accepted and looks forward to be a Wolverine.

My son was deferred Ross in ED and did not get in during the two EA rounds either. I figure the chances are pretty low he will get in now, but maybe he will hear a happy surprise in April?OOS, 35 ACT, 4.3W, 12 APs, strong ECs. He is a legacy too, but I know that doesn’t matter for admissions. There actually were a few Ross admits on Friday that were posted on TikTok or reddit or something that my son saw, but I think a ton were admitted in the first EA wave.

Their admissions notification process leaves me doubting their supposed commitment to wellbeing that’s touted in their FB post!!!
“Prioritize your well-being with a moment of mindfulness. Explore tools and resources at U-M that can help you champion your well-being, as well as help you support the well-being of others.”

This is a great post. They have really botched everything this year so far. Do better UM.

Many do. It’s funny how everyone holds these people as the creme de la creme - and they can’t do the basics. Not just UM - but many bureacracies.
