My daughter’s portal invite also took a long time and the STARS also needed to be corrected and did not include any senior classes (plus some other classes were imported incorrectly.) Once the STARS was finalized though she received a decision quickly and she never had anything asking for senior grades. I would say go ahead and still send the quarter grades. If they are waiting to see more grades, that might do the trick. Then you can update with the official semester grades when available. This time around my child didn’t have a chance to send quarter grades, but with my older child she did even though ours are the same, not official but more of an in-progress grade.
Honestly.. right now i think the kid is feeling the love from another admit and not inclined to run after UMN, but I will suggest it.
Our high school aso goes by semester grades as well, though they do release a quarter 1 report and his counselor was more than willing to send that in. I think it certainly can’t help, I’d bring it up to your child!
In the rolling admissions period, does the UMN only send out “acceptances”? I haven’t heard of anyone getting deferred or rejected. Can someone collaborate? My son is high on UMN, and like many boys, freshman grades were not ideal:) My guess is that he was thrown into the January pile.
Yes, it seems to be the ‘obvious’ acceptances right now… unfortunately.
They have gotten around to the less than perfect kids now. In state, late applications anyway. Good luck
Yes, what a relief to get the acceptance before Thanksgiving. In state, CSE.
Is a merit award obvious (i.e., front and center) in the portal? My daughter keeps telling me she has nothing for a few different portals, then I saw a description for University fo Delaware that merit letters were in the “View your Financial Portal” tab. I told my daughter to go there and low and behold, she had a Presidential Merit Award. No email notification, nothing. Why they hide these things is beyond me. I want to make sure she’s not missing any other notices. Thank you!
UMN sent my daughter an email that there was an update to her portal and when she checked it said something like view your financial information, under the tab to find your acceptance letter. We also did not get an email from UD, but they mail out merit info as well as updating the portal so you’d at least know when you got a letter in the mail.
Regarding the merit award from Univ of Minnesota, my D26 received an email saying there is an update in the portal, and then when we logged in, there is a banner that also says Scholarship Recipient with a link to see the merit award letter.
As others have said, this year merit notification for my daughter came on a Monday with an email saying to check her portal and then there was a banner to click on with the award letter (same thing happened with Honors College.) Three years ago when my older child applied we received merit notification via snail mail instead, so this was a change.
Yes, my D26 received her merit notification on a Monday afternoon also. The merit amount was the same as the stats-based “auto merit” that shows up in the NPC. The merit letter appears in her portal.
When my S23 applied, there was an email that came out in December telling him to fill out a form to apply for additional, more targeted merit scholarships. He filled out this form (just a bunch of checkboxes) and then was awarded an add-on merit scholarship for “Jewish students in engineering.” I expect there are a lot of these for different categories of students.
So if the process is similar, everyone should be on the lookout for this email and form. More merit is nice! ![]()
They have?
What were stats? My early applicant son is still waiting to hear… also applied CSE and we’re just across the border in Wisconsin.
My son applied 10/30, GPA unweighted 3.86, school doesn’t rank or do weighted GPA, ACT best composite 34, EC robotics and music focused, intended major is physics.
Yes in state child applied at the early deadline. Admitted Monday the 24th
Wisconsin girl admitted today. Liberal arts. I’m surprised about the Friday notice
That’s so great to hear! And on a Friday versus typical Monday afternoon - gives me hope that we could possibly hear soon. What were your daughter’s stats?
Not mind blowing. 3.7 gpa and 25 ACT. Class rank around 8%. Some decent extracurriculars. I think you will hear soon and get good news. They just have a ton of applications. Liberal arts though. Good luck!
Yup, same here. DS got notification of status update and saw merit letter in portal matching NPC projected amount based on stats.
