Yes it really is a 9% increase in our case (out of state). I am comparing apples to apples in that I am looking at the previously published price for tuition + room/board which was 52k in the fall and now for tution + room/board it is 55,495. The difference between 38k and 41, 500 is 9%.
I don’t factor in books/travel for any of the schools just the direct costs from each school.
Ok. We are also out of state. My daughter is deciding between UNH and one other school, which is also out of state and not cheaper than UNH. UNH is better value for us.
To clarify a little, I do not know of any accusations of financial mismanagement. There are similar cuts happening at universities across the country. The dip in the college bound population was known to be coming in higher ed. The sustained increased costs of nearly everything post Covid was not foreseeable. At our household level we feel the impact of increases, so at an institution or municipality, the increased costs are of a greater magnitude. I had to cut major things in my proposed work budget for next year this week today and will need to go back and make additional cuts as we look at payroll projected increases, insurance, basic supplies, etc…
The cost of out of state tuition, room, and board is similar to many others and less than some that are surprisingly high with no merit levels. Families need to consider all of their options. Some colleges do not post their increases until deep in the summer.
My DD just committed today and it was kind of anticlimactic… I got an email confirming the payment but she got nothing. During the application process she had gotten a “@usnh.edu” email but it says she has no access. Does it take time to activate? She had wanted to check out the housing. Anyone know what comes next? Thanks!
Same experience for our son who committed yesterday. The next step in his portal says to fill out a survey and then he will have access to pick an orientation time. I think they get more housing information once that is complete. All with the caveat that I have not been through this with UNH before, so I could be missing a step. But he is planning to do the survey tonight.
An update from UNH’s Enrollment Management Office: The Department of Ed has completed their updates of FAFSA files. UNH (new student) awards went out last week and the remaining (new student) awards came out last night. All Fall 2024 applicants who have filed their FAFSA with UNH should now have received a financial aid award.
