University of Pittsburgh Class of 2022

Hey, I want to ask you if I got button changed, is that meaning I got in? @SST0221

Congrats, Joezzz, yes, you are in! Pressing accept means you accept the offer, so don’t do that since you applied ED somewhere else! You’ll get the email video soon, couple of days!

Thank you so much! It helps me a lot! @Winky1

@Joezzzzz , Winky is correct. Our buttons changed Monday and the email acceptance came today. I don’t know anyone who had the accept/decline buttons who was not accepted. Congratulations and good luck!

@Kayak24 . yeah, thank you so much. Do the emails come out two days after the buttons?

I think so, @joezzzzz. and around 3-3:30 pm often times.

Yeah, at around 3pm (and I suspect hundreds of people are logged in because the video message took almost a half hour to load).

@kayak24 @winky1 yeah so I would expect my acceptance email by Friday then, this week is amazing.

A question…two students. Same SAT score, same GPA. SAT and GPA qualify them for merit consideration. One student reports class rank, the other does not. Her school doesn’t rank. The student who reports rank is not in top 5% of class. Is she disqualified from merit consideration while the other student who did not report rank, but who also may not be in top 5%, still in the running for merit?

Applied 9/26, they received all my scores 10/13. Still have not heard back. In state male, 4.2W GPA 1470 SAT Swanson Engineering. Should I be concerned yet?

@bigbrewer299 my stats were relatively lower than yours, and I applied 10/23, button changed today, OOS, maybe because it’s engineering, so it’s slower.

has anyone received merit decisions this week?

@ECMD03, Rank is only applicable if it is provided. Merit based scholarships are very competitive and in most recent years have been awarded to students who rank within the top 5% of their class (if rank is provided) or have an A average in a challenging curriculum. It is hard to speak to the hypothetical you provided because there are a lot of factors the Scholarship Committee will consider in addition to rank when reviewing an applicant.

If you would like to discuss your application/scholarships, you are welcome to call our office: 412-624-7488. We can take a look at your account and give you much more specific information in response to any questions you have.

@music465, yes, there are many including my daughter. There is a separate thread for merit scholarships. Please visit there.

@bigbrewer299 , I would request you to call the admissions office and make sure if everything is ok with the application. For your stats, you need not worry

@hailtopitt1787 Thank you so much for your response. This is my first time through this whole process, and I guess I just don’t understand why anyone would report rank unless you’re in the top 5% of class. Other than that, it would only seem to be used against you if you’re competing against someone who doesn’t report rank. Thank you again for your response.

@Joezzzzz yes you got in! Congratulations!

@hailtopitt1787 if Pitt asks for mid year grades, and if mine are low, then will they take back my seat in Pitt?

@SST0221, If you are already admitted, we don’t typically ask for mid-year grades. We will ask students who enroll at Pitt for their final official high school transcript before they start fall classes. There are instances where we do reserve the right to revoke admission: discrepancies and misrepresentations on your SRAR (it should match your transcript exactly - with the exception of final grades for senior year) or poor performance in senior year (this is rare, but does happen).

If you have questions about your specific situation, you are more than welcome to shoot our office an email: oafa@pitt.edu.

A Pitt Admissions Staffer

@ECMD03, We do expect a student’s Self Reported Academic Record to match their transcript exactly. So if rank is on there, it should be on the SRAR. We will compare your SRAR to your official high school transcript if you enroll at Pitt. Discrepancies and misrepresentations on the SRAR could result in the Admissions Committee revoking your admissions decision.

Feel free to contact our office if you have any more questions about class rank on your particular application. We will be happy to assist: 412-624-7488.

@hailtopitt1767 So if a student has over 1500 on their SAT and a weighted average over 4.0, would a few Bs on the transcript from 8th or 9th grade disqualify them from merit aid consideration? Does Pitt expect an unweighted 4.0, or would an unweighted 3.8 be considered an “A” average for lower awards?
