Sounds like that John Travolta card wasn’t it then?![]()
@TheVulcan Well I sure hope not, because it never showed up in our mailbox! I wonder if someone at our local post office is messing with us.
Got scholarship letter today, $15K per year for four years.
35 ACT, 4.1 wgpa, Blue & Gold visit, OOS, strong essays, lots of EC, 9APs. Definitely her first choice so we are grateful she received something but definitely lower than we were hoping for. Although it does seem to be in line with amounts from last year. I guess she will be hitting send on those applications in the cue for Nov 1st deadline.
Good luck to all still waiting to hear about $$$!
@fretfulmother, @Beekayweha, when were the letters dated/postmarked?
Are Blue & Gold visits expected to demonstrate interest and help with merit?
Too late for that, I guess.
@TheVulcan letter was dated 10/25. I do think Pitt considers demonstrated interest particularly with high stat kids (they want to protect their yield). But that’s just my opinion.
One might think it may make more sense to award money to those that are on the fence, as a yield protection measure. They are already admitted - and yield is calculated vs admits, not vs scholarships offered. And if they don’t attend - no money lost.
I guess my DS’s award (or lack thereof) will be testing this theory ![]()
@BlueGators - DS says “Swanson School, main campus”
@TheVulcan @Beekayweha - yes, I have considered both that demonstrated interest could help or could hurt, with exactly your thoughts on the matter.
My older son was offered more and did not visit officially but referred in an essay answer to visiting informally. Also, it was four years ago when maybe things were more generous.
I look forward to seeing more data points!
Same for my son. I will post here if there are any news.
To people who have gotten merit offers - did it come after the official acceptance letter or with it?
@buckybarnesx It came about 2 days later
@lablover69
You got acceptance letter 10/30 and merit letter today 11/1?
DD applied to Pitt 8/8 and was admitted on 9/8.
GPA 4.1 (W) and 3.9 (UW). (only took 3 AP classes and 2 honors)
SAT 1460.
Extracurriculars: hundreds of hospital volunteer hours, lots of leadership at school.
Major: School of Nursing.
@brown2024 I jumped the gun. Saw a letter was arriving from office of financial aid and I thought that is what it was - but it was the guaranteed admission to graduate school. Sorry!
Son got $5000/yr. Two years ago, son similar stats got $15,000. Really disappointed.
We got S’s merit letter today. 10k/year. OOS, 34 ACT, 4.0 UW. He had visited campus and put a lot of effort into the essays. With the current merit trend, it’s about what we expected. It’s nice to be recognized for the hard work, but S will likely go with a less expensive option.
@Andromeda10 - are you out of state?
@searching2020 Pittsburgh suburb.
For those that received merit letters - did you complete the FAFSA?
@brown2024 No, we did not complete the FAFSA.
