University of Pittsburgh Class of 2024 Official Discussion Thread

Received merit letter today, in state, ACT 33/GPA 4.2/decent ECs - only 2K per year! Better than nothing though and did get accepted into GAP which is more important.

And no we did not complete the FAFSA.

Were you accepted into GAP, or were you invited to apply?

For those of you that got scholarships, do they show in your Pitt Portal or is the letter the only confirmation of the award?

Still no merit for me, I am OOS. I did get my GAP nursing acceptance letter today though!!!

Recieved 15k a year but was expecting more. 35 ACT/1550 SAT/ 3.9. Don’t understand how I only got 15k. With 15k a year, how much will it be to attend?

My D got her merit offer today OOS, 34 ACT, 3.9 unweighted and 4.31 weighted GPA, decent ECs, about 7 APs, 10k per year.

About 35K, give or take, depending on school.

My daughter received merit letter today too offering 5K a year.

OOS
ACT - 33
GPA 4.2w,
lots of ECs with leadership
completed all essays
FAFSA completed but our EFC is higher than Pitt annual cost

No. The merit $ money D received is not showing in the Pitt Portal yet. Just the letter.

We are at Pitt today for an open house and spoke to a man in admissions about merit aid. He told us that as OOS my son could expect to receive $5k, $10k, or $15k. He made it sound like those were the only options. Could that be right? I’d be happy with anything, but this seems like a big change from past years. In state students seemed to have a different merit structure. He also confirmed to me that admissions handles merit aid.

@user3207 I did the math. If your an OOS, 15K gets you to the in-state amount. Around $30,000 per year (all in…Room, Fees, ETC). It is what it is.

D got 20k/yr. OOS, 1550 SAT, 4.55W/3.97UW. No school visit. All essays. Swanson.

Good luck to all scholarship applicants!

daughter got her merit award letter yesterday. 5k/year. not really enough to move Pitt up her list, although she has never visited. Not enough of a difference for me to force her to visit either. still flattering though, and I still love the school.
SAT 1470, weighted GPA 4.4-ish.

Are the people who are getting merit scholarships in-state or out-of-state? I’m hoping to get close to a full ride if I were to consider Pitt, for it’d be crazy expensive for me otherwise!

The merit awards going out now are not close to full rides…most will be in the $5K-20K range. Pitt gives out only a few full rides…I think Chancellor (must be admitted to honors) and Stamps (must be PA resident). Check the website for details on how to apply for those, but they will be very competitive.

Edited to add: Have you run Pitt’s NPC to get an estimate of costs? They do include a merit estimate, so run that for a baseline. https://oafa.pitt.edu/financialaid/costs/

I just ran it, and it didn't show any merit with a 4.0/36

I ran it for 4.0, 34, EFC of $20K and it showed $10K merit

Our EFC exceeds Pitt’s COA. Are their merit awards really tied to need?

That simply can’t be, as there are reports above receiving scholarships without filing FAFSA.

I think this calculator is flawed.

My son got his merit offer yesterday in the mail. In state, masters track program, school of engineering, 10K a year.
