As an instate student I would definitely still apply.
Pitt costs $30,000 a year without merit but you might qualify for a Pell Grant or state grant.
Pitt offers a Pell Grant match program now.
Historically instate merit has been lower, $2,000 or $5,000, but some students do get more.
Instate students already get a tuition discount that is not totally covered by state appropriations.
Valedictorians and Salutatorians of Pittsburgh high schools who are Pell Grant eligible, can have their financial need met.
There is the Nordenberg and Stamps leadership scholarship for instate students to apply to as well.
Pitt likes high stats students with high class rank.
I don’t know if the fact that my D graduated from a small rural town or that she is a first generation college student played a role in the amount of merit she received, but of course that was several years ago too.
PASSHE schools are almost up to the cost of PItt, Temple and PSU.
If the buttons changed on my portal to accept/decline how long does it take for an email to come?
Portal has Accept/Decline buttons as of today for my DS! Applied 10/16 through Common App to School of Business. OOS, 3.74 GPA UW / 4.33 GPA W, 1490 SAT, Honors and AP classes.
@vkp84 My buttons changed on 10/24 and my email with the welcome video came on 10/28, i think my official acceptance letter arrived on 10/31, and my GAP Nursing acceptance arrived on 11/02. Still nothing on merit though.
I submitted my application on 10/18 and got the accepted video in my email today and I applied for the engineering school. 4.42 W (school doesn’t do UW), 35 ACT, and 11 APs
I submitted my application back in September and got accepted 11 days later on 9/30. I applied to Dietrich as a Biology Major with a 4.2917 W, 3.8333 UW, 1470 SAT, and 8 APs including senior year. I got into the GAP for Dental as well. However, I’m wondering if you guys think I can get merit money from Pitt (I am In-state). On Pitt’s website, it says you need a 1480 on the SAT, and I’m now worried that I won’t get anything because of my score. Also, I only wrote four of the five essays (I wrote both Honors prompts). Do you guys think I have a chance at some merit? Or Honors? Thanks for the help in advance.
Hey guys! I got accepted today to Pitt. I got my email in the middle of class today hahah and I freaked out. I clicked on the video, not knowing what to expect since it was my VERY first admission decision. I clicked on it and watched the video and it said ‘ACCEPTED.’ I am so happy to have this opportunity to go to such a great school. I applied to the Swanson School of Engineering for Bioengineering. I am so excited aaahhh!
Does Pitt tell you how much financial aid you’ll be receiving in the admissions decision email? Or do they send you a letter? How are people finding out how much money they are getting?
@SriyaAvadhanam you get a letter
Merit offers and financial aid come in a separate letter
What comes in the acceptance package? (Just curious)
@Beekayweha My son has very similar stats, and we are also waiting on the Honors College decision. This from the Pitt website:
“November 1st – Pitt Honors Priority Consideration Deadline (Candidates will be informed of their Pitt Honors admission decision on or before January 12) January 15th – Pitt Honors Regular Consideration Deadline (Candidates will be informed of their Pitt Honors admission decision on or before March 1)”
It is just an official letter and a “Pitt Bound” poster of the Cathedral that you are supposed to pose with and post to social media.
Applied 10/15. Buttons appeared yesterday afternoon!!
@user3207 I finally received a GAP med letter. It’s separate from the admissions and honors letters. I still haven’t received any notification for merit-aid, however.
@fakesnek Whar were your stats and how long after your acceptance letter did you hear?
Help- D did not get the email to send the SRAR. When going directly to the link, after putting the email, she’s asked to put a password. Which password is this?
My son was already accepted and we keep getting all of these emails from Pitt about applying for PA Scholars. Do all of the in-state students get these emails? He’s up to his ears in applications right now. These sound like leadership scholarships, and while he’s a good kid with nice stats and some unusual life experience, it’s not like he’s President of a hundred clubs or anything. Anyone getting a ton of these emails?
I think it’s well worth doing the PA scholars application.
I don’t know if all PA students are invited.
Looks like there is a 500 words essay, a resume sheet and a recommendation required.
He should find out what the deadline is.
