University of Pittsburgh Class of 2024 Official Discussion Thread

I don’t think the Pitt portal was supposed to function as a portal where you see your acceptance and merit etc.

When my D was accepted a few years ago, she only had a portal to check if scores and transcript were received.

She then received acceptance and merit notification in a letter.

She received invitation to apply to Stamps scholarship in an email. Chancellor’s invitation was included in the merit notification letter.

This process has changed somewhat now, and everyone worries about the buttons in the Pitt passport app.

But the student and family should wait for official notification by mail regarding acceptance and merit. The video email does usually precede the acceptance letter.

Later in the spring, you should get a financial aid award letter in the mail as well. And housing information used to be mailed a few weeks after deposit was made, starting in February.

I know that some schools seem to do everything online through a portal, neither of my kids applied to any.

They were excited when they received their acceptance letters.

Anyone accepted to SCI got merit notifications?

I understand they have a long way to go reviewing, but, having received acceptance two months ago, was hoping to hear back on merit with the early batches.

I wonder if they are reviewing those in the context of the school’s applicant pool, with lots of engineering and SCI admitted students being in general merit range.

Still, with ACT 36 (Sophomore year), GPA 4.92W/4.0UW, SAT Math 2 800, SAT Physics 800, 13 APs(all 5) plus 3 more senior year, and several major national academic awards (ISEF 3rd place category and special awards, USACO Platinum, USAPhO Silver Medal, AIME qualifier), the wait is beginning to get a bit discouraging.

@TheVulcan
Same here - getting discouraged with the inconsistency in the merit award timing.

For those of you who got merit scholarships - how did your actual scholarship compare to what the Pitt net price calculator predicted?

I don’t think merit consideration is done in order of acceptance.

The committee reviews a certain number of students for merit every week.
Some students also might be going though several rounds of review, the scholarships are competitive after all.

A few years ago my D was accepted at the end of August and received merit notification in December.

It was difficult to wait. Pitt was her number one school and we needed a scholarship in order for her to be able to attend.

It better be something really good S is competing for then;)

@TheVulcan - with a 4.0 gpa and 36 ACT you’d think your son would get at least $10,000 or $15,000 if you are in state (more if you are OOS)?

He’s OOS

We are SCI as well and have not gotten merit offer to date. He may be on bubble… in state, gpa 4.14, 34 ACT, tons of community service and internships in computer field. Time will tell…

D’s application showed complete on 10/25 and we still have not heard anything. Buttons still show “You do not have any pending applications at this time.”
Does this mean she is still being considered for Admissions?

My OOS son applied 10/23. I’m not sure about the buttons but he got an email today with a personalized acceptance video, which is so cool! Very exciting–good luck to all. (The portal on the web site has not changed yet, FYI.)

Are you checking the mobile portal or the regular one? (see post #18)

Regular. He told me mobile portal changed.

Thank you! My son got the video but did not see the buttons on his mobile app. We clicked the url you provided and saw them–thank you!!!

I still have not received invitation to apply for med GAP. Does this mean I didn’t get it? 35 ACT/1550 SAT w/ 15k per year merit.

@user3207 - I would call Pitt and ask them directly. About a week after she was admitted they sent out the email inviting my D to apply for the med GAP and it only gives you 1 month to get your application in. You’ll want to make sure you didn’t miss the email, as the clock is ticking from when they send it.

Some info about the medicine GAP from the website:

Do all above 1490 SAT get application to apply for GAP medicine as we have 1540 and still waiting

Just 2
