University of Pittsburgh Class of 2024 Official Discussion Thread

Check the email spam folder for the acceptance video

Should I be concerned? My materials were complete about 5 weeks ago and I have not heard a decision. Stats: OOS, Swanson application. 4.1W ~3.7UW, 34ACT. I have taken every AP offered, two Math classes at my CC and am in the AP Capstone Program. A few, but deep EC’s. Thanks!!

Your stats are great! D just received her acceptance in the mail to Swanson and she has very similar stats to you. Applied Oct. 31st, sent SRAR/application complete Nov. 8th. I recommend calling them.

Has anyone received any news about Pitt Honors admissions?

Only one has mentioned that they were accepted into the Business honors program. I don’t believe anyone else has posted about it.

@MarginalCost Here is what I found from the Honors site (and posted earlier):

“November 1st – Pitt Honors Priority Consideration Deadline (Candidates will be informed of their Pitt Honors admission decision on or before January 12) January 15th – Pitt Honors Regular Consideration Deadline (Candidates will be informed of their Pitt Honors admission decision on or before March 1)”

Buttons just showed up, but why does it show Undeclared in SCI? Was I rejected from CS or does everyone get in Undeclared?

In-State 4.0 UW, 1510 SAT

Congrats! This is normal, they admit as prospective major. It will be mentioned in the paper letter you will receive shortly.

@hnks09 -Thank you. Fingers crossed and obsessively checking the portal…Congratulations to your D, I am sure she is thrilled.

I just got accepted today!!

Yes, just to reclarify the timeline again:

Application (common app and Honors app together) submitted Oct 29
General admission notice received Nov 25 (online)
GAP MBA invitation letter received Nov 28 (regular mail)
Business Honors College acceptance received Dec 6 (regular mail)

Still nothing on the portal regarding financials though, which is troubling since I think I read some people already got assistance offers. Ours just says “You have no award data”.

Out of State. 1540 SAT. 95 Avg u/w , 99 w - our school does not do the 4.0 / 5.0 thing, and I think a lot of people don’t understand how to do it either (and frankly I don’t either), and I think the schools just redo it themselves based on transcipts/courses anyway.
Keep checking the portal for financials but has not changed since acceptance.

It’s too early to start getting antsy about merit with admission this recent.

I got reprimanded here for being impatient, and my son was admitted three months ago today (stats in post #7).

Buttons showed up today (finally). So excited!!!

Son was accepted, thought I’d share his stats with the community.
-Applied 10/30, Acceptance email received 11/29

-A&S for Political Science, minor in Italian

-GPA 4.2636 weighted…I have no idea what it is unweighted, honestly.

-APs: USHistory (4), LangComp (4) , Italian, USGov and EnvSci (All senior year)
-Honors: All other classes.

-Submitted all supplemental questions on application
-We visited campus in April of his junior year for tour
-He met with Pitt admissions representative during in-school visit
-ECs are primarily all music related - All county, region, state and nation for chorus. Is not majoring in music, but will participate in chorus in college and made that very clear within his essays

-Significant leadership activities and committment to LGBTQ activities in school and nationally

Think the test scores will hold us back from merit, but is still a strong option for us to consider.

I heard there was a way to appeal the decision with something substantial (standardized testing/senior yr grades). Is this true? I was rejected to Pitt, I was placed into one of the satellite campuses with a 32 ACT and a 3.2UW, 3.4W - took the most challenging course load possible. I believe it is low because of my junior year, I took on more than I could chew and developmentally as a student, I wasn’t prepared. There was an upward trend from first semester to second. I’m taking a considerable amount of AP classes in my senior year and I have all As, some Bs (3.7UW, 4.7W for this year - which does not combine my other ones). I think I have made significant improvement, will this be enough to perhaps appeal?

My son just saw the “buttons”! Will have to wait on merit though to see if we can make it work. Fingers crossed! His Pitt contact told him we may not hear until March but I see many on this forum have already received notice (seems to be the very top tier students). His stats are 32 act, 3.9 gpa, lots of APs, and quality extracurricular activities. Has anyone received merit with similar stats?? Might be a long shot. School of Business Admin.

Congrats on your son’s admission!

Even top tier stats do not guarantee quick turn-around on merit. My son still hasn’t heard back. He was accepted over three months ago (stats in post #7).

The apparent cutoff for merit is ACT 34.

For those that have been accepted, are there any changes to your to-do lists on the portal?

No
