@QDad42 Thank you. Hopefully we’ll see acceptance/decline decision coming out soon. I’ll post once I’ve update! Good luck!
Has anyone heard anything about Chancellor’s yet?
it’s not february yet so i wouldn’t think so
Applied Dec 1. The portal opened up this morning for accept/decline decisions. No acceptance letter in the mail yet.
I checked my portal today, and it says that I got a 5k “University Scholarship.” This is the first notification I’m seeing for this (no email, no letter). Does anyone know if this is based on merit or need?
@mathhappy It is merit as I don’t believe need based has been decided yet.
@davidla42 Did you hear anything after sending your midterm senior year grades? We didn’t hear yet. I wonder how long does it takes to hear.
Hi, first timer here. My son recently got an acceptance letter for Swanson Engineering school, but no mention of merit aid in the letter. 1470SAT, 4.0 unweighted GPA, boatload of EC and AP. Is merit aid announced in a letter, or just via the portal. I’m making him check the portal, but he hasn’t figure it out yet.
He’s accepted into WVU Honors, and they give a ton of merit aid - virtually full tuition, but Pitt is his first choice. Unless he gets accepted for Stamps, I have a feeling Pitt (even as an in-state student) will be still be an extra 45-50K over 4 years. I like Pitt, but not sure it’s worth that much extra - crossing our fingers.
@JPE Merit definitely comes later- I’m thinking it was 2-4 weeks after acceptance in the fall.
@JPE did he submit his Pitt application before Dec 15? That is the deadline for merit consideration.
Yes, I’m pretty sure, as he applied just before the deadline for the Nordenberg scholarship. I mistakenly mentioned the Stamps scholarship earlier - he was hoping to get the Nordenberg.
@JPE it sometimes takes a couple of months before they get scholarship info to you (took me till January to get anything and i got an acceptance Nov. 4) but it usually comes in a letter and they’ll be something on the pitt mobile portal.
My DS’s regular portal never updated (saw the Accept/Decline buttons in the mobile version a couple weeks ago), but finally got an acceptance packet in the mail. No merit aid, though.

@dreambig55 looks like your son has some great acceptances!
CS is extremely competitive, especially for males.
My son is in the same situation in choosing between low tuition at WVU and so far-full in-state tuition at Pitt; for engineering. Does anyone have any insight?
@JPE, Pitt indicates SAT 1480 as cutoff for merit.

As for the timing of the award, my son was accepted in early September (see post #7 for some of his details).
I’ve been admonished here for being impatient after students with more modest profiles who applied and were admitted a lot later started receiving their offers, but son had since been admitted to Caltech, MIT, Georgia Tech CS (as a Stamps semifinalist), and offered maximum merit at OSU - yet still no merit offer from Pitt, four and a half months after admission.
All of which is to say, there appears to be no pattern to discern.
admitted

accepted business honors

Hey there everyone!
Does anyone have an idea of when the need/merit-based financial aid offers will be pushed out? Not urgent or anything, just curious.
A little about me and my application for anyone out there wanting a reference-
OOS
1330 SAT
3.97 wGPA
IB curriculum
3 sport varsity athlete, tons of other ECs
Only answered 1 of the short answers, submitted no letters of recommendation
I applied in September and was accepted 8 days(!!!) later, before I even had started my other applications. I was already pretty interested in attending Pitt, and once I was denied by GT this past weekend, it made my decision a lot easier and I’ve become really excited about being a Panther starting this fall.
@TheVulcan hey you were admonished back in like October. Now we’re all “dang…what’s up!?” We are just as curious as you and frustrated. It’s weird for sure!
Pitt does have a well established co-op program.
Many engineering students do three co-op semesters alternating with class semesters (including summers) after sophomore year.
Pitt leaves the choice of engineering specialty up to the student.
After they get all of their acceptances and merit offers, they can visit the top contenders and compare programs.
