University of Pittsburgh Class of 2024 Official Discussion Thread

@theravenslamarSb yes they do. Typically in state students receive a proportional amount of merit but the actual number value will be less. Does that make sense?

Hi all, when I sent my application to Pitt in October they wanted to see my midterm senior year grades before they made a decision, and I just sent those in a couple of days ago. Really nervous as Pitt is my number one choice. Does anyone know when the admission team sends results back after looking at midterm grades? Really anxious! Thanks.

@carachel2
In simpler terms, if the school cost 20k in state and 30k out of state, and there were two kids with exact same applications who both got scholarships. If the in-state kid would get 10k would the out of state kid get 15k?

@theravenslamarSb yes something like that!

My son completed his application on Dec. 14th and we’re still waiting for the admission decision. Any thoughts on when the decision could be received? Thank you.

ACT: 35
GPA: 3.53 (UW) and 4.3 (W)
Lots of AP/IB classes, EC average, solid essays/answers

Hey, @Seafirst I received my decision 4 weeks after applying, but I have a friend who got hers almost 10 weeks later even though we applied on the same date.

Stats look great, btw! Best of luck :slight_smile:

Hi All
Son got admitted to Upitt yesterday(15th)…Applied exactly a month ago.
His stats - 1520 SAT; Strong IB Scores and excellent essays and recommendations.
He is admitted to 'Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences ’

Son is excited with admission; We also visited the university in July’19.

There is no mention of any scholarship or aid. Do anyone know when they would make those announcements.

Regards

If he has just applied in December, then it might be a while for the scholarship committee to review his file.

There are still students that applied earlier waiting to hear if they were selected to receive a scholarship.

Classes started back from Christmas break on the 6th, so I assume the scholarship committee has only met once since then.

Acceptance notifications might also take a bit longer due to the holidays.

Merit notification should continue until March.

This is what the website says

Hey, does anyone here know how to go about applying for Housing? I’ve committed to the school but when I try to access the Housing Application it says I’m not entitled to use this service…I’m just a bit worried because I’ve heard something about paying a housing fee by February 1st.

@ashleyeliz unless the housing process has radically changed, there is nothing you need to do right now. Pitt’s housing process is great in that any student who has paid the enrollment fee by May 1st all have an equal spot in the housing process. It’s not first come, first serve.

@davidla42 My S is in the same situation. He submitted it couple days ago, also with better SAT, Hopefully hear soon. Good Luck!

This confirms my understanding. For some merit $ and for some honors given to attract them to Upitt. My DS got decent scholarship but no Honors. DS anyways did not want to stay in honors dorms and also did not face any difficulty in getting the classes DS wanted in the first year ( because of AP credits). so far DS could ace classes and is very happy.

So Honors admission or not should not stop anyone attending Upitt, provided they are comfortable with finance part.

Thank you! You too. Hopefully good news soon, let me know when you all hear anything!

Housing packets for freshmen used to go out starting in February, depending on when the enrollment deposit was paid.

Upperclassmen have to pay their housing deposit and renew their housing contract by a specific date, usually end of January or beginning of February. Upperclassmen should get an email in January with their lottery number as well.

We are in the same boat, but NYC schools don’t release mid year grades until the end of January. It looks at though this topic has come up in past years, and you may hear back within a couple of weeks.

@Seafirst My son applied on Dec 11 and just checked today to see the Accept/Decline buttons are active on his portal. They were not active when we checked earlier this week (I think Monday). Needless to say, he’s excited about that. His stats are about the same as your son’s, so I expect you will be hearing soon. He has not seen any email or snail mail yet, however.

I applied to the school of Arts and Science for a specific major; however, on my portal, it says I’m Undeclared. Is that normal?

Also, just to clarify, my acceptance letter had a major, but my portal just says Undeclared.
