University of Pittsburgh Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

Confirm what I am about to say with your local admissions representative:

I called/emailed and asked that same question about Swanson this year. The AO said that reconsideration was NOT automatic, but you could request it if not accepted to your first choice college.

(In the past, I had asked the question and got a different answer, so ask admissions and don’t trust me or any other strangers! I have it in an email and asked through a phone call and got a consistent answer, but you should still call and ask yourself.)

I applied the first-ish week of August (August 10th) and haven’t heard anything back yet- from what I’ve heard colleges take more time to respond to test-optional kids. I applied to the Dietrich school. They said 6-8 weeks so my 6 weeks since I sent all my info was last Friday! Hoping to hear soon

I asked this question by email before and I was told that once rejected, they won’t relocate the application to another school.

My D25 was considering either Swanson or SCI (Computing). She emailed her regional rep and she gave the advice that since my D25 hadn’t had physics in HS, her application will not be as competitive. So, my D25 ended up choosing SCI for her application. You may want to email to your regional rep too for clarity.

My daughter applied August 1st. She reached out and was told they have everything and she should hear in the next few weeks. So I guess it is not always 6-8 weeks!

The waiting is difficult, good luck. We have much longer to wait. App in 9/1 and some SRAR confusion so 9/24 it went under review.

6 weeks from when application went under review, instead of day applied.

So happy for you!

Yay!!! Congrats! Now you can relax and enjoy your senior year!

My son got accepted today to Swanson for EE.
GPA 3.7
SAT 1350
His school doesn’t offer traditional AP classes, but some vey rigorous college level classes like Calculus, differential equations, Robotics, etc.
He applied 8/28 after attending Pitt’s application workshop and his app went under review on 9/6.
Decision on 9/30.
This is his first choice so we are very happy for him.

Are you OOS?

No decisions yet and I am beginning to wonder. When Pitt says they will take superscore of the SAT, do they really mean it? My D25 submitted the official SAT scores where she got a 1490 supercore but a tad lower than 1400 if not superscoring, just based on one sitting. Will that negatively impact their decision? She is otherwise a 3.89 unweighted and many extracurrculars and decent amount of leadership. Applied on 8/26 and under review since 9/5. We are OOS.

I am trying to see if there is a pattern. I see many Dietrich acceptances but only a handful of Swanson and Nursing. Not sure if Swanson and Nursing folks are not active in this community or still waiting. Seeing others who applied later get accepted is adding to the anxiety.

They’re definitely not reviewing applications in order. My son’s application went under review on 8/26 and he just got accepted to Swanson tonight. Waiting is the worst but I would try not to worry if you haven’t heard back yet… hoping you get a decision really soon!

Yes

I know it is hard but I really would not worry right now. In fact, we’ve already seen in this thread cases of people worrying because they were not getting a decision as soon as some others, and then getting admitted. This happened last year too.

For whatever reason, some people get a decision a little sooner, some a little later. And it does not appear to predict anything if you end up one of the later rather than one of the sooner.

Of course if it has been a much longer time than others, you can check if there is some holdup. But right now it basically impossible for that to be true yet, because we are still in the first few weeks of the decisions coming out.
