University of Pittsburgh Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

Our son was accepted several weeks ago and heard about Merit Aid for Dietrich yesterday.

S25 was accepted to Dietrich back in September in the first wave of acceptances. OOS, no merit yet, but they were borderline (IMHO) and applied TO.

Our son was admitted on 10/22 to the business school. He also received a GAP letter to the Katz graduate school of business.

I do believe other GAP majors have a different process and their GAP decisions wouldn’t be in the original admissions acceptance. ie the Dental & PA gap list Jan 15 as their deadline for supplemental GAP documents. Supplemental GAP app is by invite only.

I think you’re right. I vaguely remember them saying something distinguishing those schools with a GAP deadline (decided later) and those without a deadline (accompanying the offer). I didn’t really understand what that meant, but your information makes it clearer. Thanks.

The Scholarship Notification showed up on the “new” acceptance page with the picture of the kids on the lawn. It was sent via email that there was an update to his application portal. Good Luck!

Is anyone planning to attend an admitted student day?

I’m planning to attend the admitted students day this Saturday (10/26). My student already attended a tour but I think the “Visit your First-Year Academic School” portion will be valuable.

D25 accepted to Dietrich tonight- she checked her portal at 7:15. Still no email. So check your portals!

EDIT: she never got an email

Wanted to share some metrics to help others.

10/2 Son submitted app thru common app
10/15 SATs officially got sent from college board
10/24 Date of acceptance letter in portal

Son is at small independent private school. OOS. School does not rank or calculate gpa but my calculations show a 3.3 UW and 3.5 W 1430 SAT. He sent personal essay as well and had a lot of ECs and Leadership. He was accepted into DIETRICH for political science. :tada: His first acceptance. Now I can breathe.

Same, business! Still no word!

Reluctantly, contacted admissions. Was very nice, generic, still under review response. Again, we applied 8/1.

We found our local contact through our high school, wrote a nice email to ask a few things, but just received a very nice note back of basically keep waiting. So, we really didn’t learn anything new, but I really wanted to make sure we were not missing something, or nothing was being held up, waiting for a response from us or the high school, etc. we were assured everything is complete and keep checking portal.

Definitely lost in the shuffle! My son’s application and timeline sounds identical (he has a bit higher SAT score) also applied first week of August to Swanson, was accepted 10/1 and received very generous merit on 10/24.

FYI, my twins applied.. one to business school another to Swanson on 10/1. For my son with business school application, he got an update in portal asking for mid year grades. He emailed asking if he could update first term grades via SRAS in the interim before the mid year grade report is out in late Jan. He got 2 emails from different admissions personnel that it is not uncommon to ask for mid year grades and they wanted only mid year grades to avoid more delays. As for the other son.. he got his new improved SAT score and sent an email to admissions last week providing a personal copy and also sent officially through college board. He also received a reply back yesterday that they have received his new official SAT score report and thanking him for his continued interest. Alteast we have got non-automated personal reply emails.. not sure it means much but better than ghosting.

DS25 got accepted in Swanson on 10/24. Applied mid September. Bioengineering intending to do medicine or grad school.
In state, GPA 4.0/4.99, SAT 1480, several APs (all 5s) and Honors, 3 DEs, Varsity sports 4 years, NHS, caregiver, some volunteering, and other ECs. First acceptance. Very relieved. Hoping for some merit aid.

Agreed! We attended the 10/26 Admitted Students day with our daughter as well. I was unable to attend the B&G day that my husband and daughter attended over the summer and they both advised that the admitted student day yesterday was closer to that experience than scheduling a regular admission session/campus tour through Admissions which we did with our younger daughter (Soph) while in Pittsburgh. The Admitted Students day was well organized, good information and pretty much sealed the deal for our daughter although we are waiting for all acceptances/merit to be on the table over the winter and early spring to make her committment.
