University of Pittsburgh Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

Yes she received an email.

Just wanted to share - my son is a sophomore in the business school and loving it. We’ve been impressed with everything they have to offer with networking, opportunities and learning. Perhaps their admissions presentation was off but the school is great!!!

My other son was accepted to Swanson.

Someone else said it and they are right - kids are happy at Pitt, it’s a chill vibe and the feel there is a good one.

Was in this boat too, until yesterday, (applied 8/1). Answer she got was that they want to see mid year grades, and then maybe get an answer in February? Anyone know what the significance of this type of next status/email is? What does it mean?

It generally means that they weren’t ready to make a decision and want to see more of the applicant pool – and her senior year performance – before making a determination on admit/deny/branch.

All she can do is continue trying her best at school and make sure she has other options that will make her happy. She could still get any of those decisions from Pitt, so have other acceptances is important.

We got notification that there was an update to his portal. As he’d been accepted, we knew it had to be something else. Plus a girl in his school had heard two days earlier from Pitt about merit. It adds a button in the portal. It says view your scholarship. Like it says view your admissions. I understand they do this from now until February. Mine got 15k a year. The young woman in his high school got 20k a year.

do the merit notifications come out at the same time (time of day) as acceptance notices? I think it’s usually between 7 and 8?

Ours did. We were eating dinner. LOL

hello! im a senior and i wanted to share my stats since i just accepted today. i got super intimidated from seeing all the 1500s and 4.0 gpas so hopefully my situation helps any anxious students still waiting on their decision.

major: Biological Sciences (hoping to go premed)
gpa: 4.24/5.0 weighted
class rank: 35/98
act: 31/36

so no, you dont need a high sat/act. just focus on your essays and youll be fine!

do students that applied to the honors college usually receive an admissions decision to the university later than others due to the honors college deadline being dec. 1?

No. They are two separate review processes. The applicant will be reviewed for admissions on a rolling basis, then re-reviewed for honors admissions after December 1. Many (most?) applicants find out their Pitt status long before they find out their honors status on March 1. The school does not wait to review them for honors before admitting them to the university.

The application portal for S25 doesn’t show accurate information as in not complete, but the application was submitted in CommonApp. Any recommendations? Thinking about having them contact IT there. Hopefully not a concern that Pitt isn’t going to review the CommonApp.

Have you submitted SRAR?

Yes.

Hello all,

DS25 got accepted to Pitt (Swanson) a couple weeks ago. How important is it to attend an “Accepted student day”? We are in the Philly region. It is a 5h drive one way. I am unable to take him due to caregiving duties for the other parent. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Is this event a must? Any disadvantage for missing this?
  2. Can a student attend by themselves
? (without a parent)

Thank you all.

The primary purpose of these events is to help you decide if you want to accept your Pitt offer. They will provide some information that may also be useful for planning purposes, but there are other ways to get that information. In fact, this is addressed on their website:

If you’ve already committed to Pitt this event may not be helpful for you. This is not an academic orientation. We encourage you to check your new Pitt email for upcoming events for committed students.

If you scroll down they have more information for what to do if you have already decided on Pitt.

OK, so I think this is really entirely up to you. If you think it would help your kid decide, great, if you don’t think it is necessary, also fine.

I note they also have virtual Decision Days, if you think that would be preferable. I also believe (you might want to check) their policy is that parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend, but not strictly required.

I don’t know about Pitt’s accepted student day in particular, so hopefully someone else will weigh in. They’re never essential, but can help give students a better sense of the school, especially if they haven’t visited, or aren’t sure they’d want to attend. If they are sure, it can be fun to get swag and meet people. The schools I’m familiar with aim admitted student days at the students - but have info/activities for families as well. If your student wants to go, and housing isn’t an issue (or they can do a day trip), I’d vote for sending the student alone. Realize that your student will be making the same trip in a year if they go to Pitt

Edited to add: but double check that parents aren’t needed. I’d be surprised if they were but obviously better to know before scheduling.

Has your son visited Pitt yet? If you have the financial resources, I would want him to try to visit before making a decision, even if it means going with a classmate’s family who is also visiting or going on his own. It’s not critical that it happens right now, though, and they have admitted students days all spring.

Pitt does a great job with their admitted students days, at least compared to a lot of schools, so it’s usually a positive experience.

We are also planning to attend in Feb admitted students day for Swanson Eng. We have to fly in from Northeast.. Hopefully, by then the kids will have more acceptance/ aid offers and it will aid in decision making.
