University of Pittsburgh Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

Based on our information (our kid did not end up at Pitt but he applied and we have a lot of connections to Pitt for various reasons), I would describe it as one of those programs which comes with nice perks that can definitely help make the first couple years go smoother. Probably the two most important are priority registration and dedicated housing in one of the best dorms.

It is not the sort of program where you basically go to a whole separate school within the larger university.

How much to value a program like that is up to each individual. I think if there was another college you overall liked significantly better, was a much better value, or so on, it would not necessarily make sense for a Frederick offer to trump all that. But if Pitt ended up a top contender anyway, you might well see this as an important factor that distinguished it from otherwise close contenders.

Got updated decision- Waitlisted for Business School! A stellar mid term performance ( As in 4APs and Calculus honors- scores of 95/99!)but probably was too late! Good luck to all those still waiting!

Ugh I’m sorry. I was routing for your son. He had such stellar mid year grades too! Maybe he’ll be one of the first off the waitlist. I’m not expecting my business kid will fair any better. Thanks for the update and please keep us updated.

My son finally received a decision. He was accepted at a branch campus. Thankfully not his top choice and happy to finally have a decision. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

I am sorry this wasn’t the result he wanted - I hope he has some other great options with those scores - well done.

This application season - my first - is a terrible experience from the new digital SAT to the increase in applications (yet wildly $ OOS anywhere ) . It is frustrating

Very grateful and surprised that my D25 (international) just received a scholarship from Pitt. We thought there was no chance being int’l. It was a very nice gesture of Pitt to offer her that. It’s $5,000/year x 4.

For those who were accepted into the Honors program, have they seen anything about signing up for the honors admitted students day. D25 received notice that it would be 3/29 or 4/12 when she was admitted in early December but hasn’t seen anything since and there is nothing on the portal. Just trying to figure out if those dates are still true and how she signs up.

We never got a reception email :frowning: We are going for an Swanson admitted student day in March, though. Is this something we need to or good to attend? Thanks.

Thanks we never got the email invite that my daughter was told we would receive, but was able to find a link on honors department page and signed up. I wish we could sign up for an admitted students day but they only seem to be opening them (at least on my daughters portal) a week in advance. Makes it really hard to plan.

I learned from our first rodeo to have a parent email as backup on all things. That way the high school student, or in our case the high school firewall, isn’t holding important information. There might have been something in the Pitt HC letter that pointed one to go attend Pitt HC day. I cannot recall.

Consider emailing the link below…

Uggh… will advise if S25 decides to not attend the Pitt HC day in April… will keep and others posted … while he said he doesn’t know where he is going… he said he need not visit Pitt b/c we’ve been it Pittsburgh many times as we’re in the general area.

Thanks we are signed up for the March Pitt Honors college reception but she also wanted to go to an admitted students day. I think she is planning on emailing admissions to see if they know if one will be scheduled when she has a moment.

… ohhh… I misunderstood… basically from my past experience… if you attend an HC visit that covers 99% of any other admitted day student activity. The HC admitted student day is say the ā€œnormalā€ admitted student day on steroids. Things may have changed in two years… but in general, if it were me only, I’d only sign up for the HC day. That is in fact what we’re doing.

When does merit come out? We haven’t heard anything since November.

admissions told me they will continue to release until mid-march, but i have also heard of april merit releases in past years

DS and DH attended an admitted students day at the engineering school this past Saturday. Something of a let down as it was almost word for word the same as a Blue and Gold day they attended this summer / same 2 guys, same shtick. DS did get a hat though. And there was an activity fair later where he was able to talk to some honors college students about its benefits. They also enjoyed getting to try out the refreshed Eatery, which they both thought was surprisingly good. On balance, however, they would not have gone had they known what it would be (and not be).

Would you recommend for someone who hadn’t been to a blue & gold day (only been to campus for campus infosession & tour)

For those of you interested in the Honors College, have you been given specific information on how to sign up for either of the 2 event days mentioned in the honors letter? The dates were listed but we haven’t seen a way to select our attendance.

No, if you click the date, it takes to the student portal with no option for signing up. Confusing.
