University of Pittsburgh Class of 2030 Official Thread

Yes, my kid specifically wanted a 4 year degree for various reasons (not relevant to this thread). They are well aware they’ll need to do a MArch.

How has your kid’s experience been at RPI so far? It was in a “maybe” pile for my D26, and she’s still considering. She’s more an artsy/tech kid, and the school seems very STEM focused, but there are a couple majors that interest her, so she’s still considering.

I have a friend whose daughter is a freshman this year, and she LOVES it and is having the best time.

Big reason for applying to Pitt for my D26 was the rolling admission and ability to hear back really early. I insisted on her applying to one rolling admit school. Pitt was the winner because it’s strong in STEM, has a good honors college, and is relatively convenient to where we are in NJ. She can travel by train, which she preferred - albeit it’s a long train ride. Other big draw for her was their really strong choir, which she wants to continue doing in college. Location in a mid-size city was also a hit. All in all, it met a lot of her requirements for what she wants in a college/city.

There are definitely additional admitted students days - I think they had one in March this year for the class of 2029. If you can’t make one of the admitted students days, look into Blue and Gold days. It’s similar, but it’s open to anyone.

My kid is loving RPI too as a freshman. It is a great school and highly recommend for artsy and STEM kids alike. Great outcomes too!

Also, RPI EA application is free.

I’m 23 and graduated high school in ‘21. I wasn’t ready for college 4 years ago, but I applied 8/1 and found out I got in on 9/11. If there’s anyone else like me who didn’t go to college right after high school and who’s an older freshman, I would love to connect! H2P!

Looking for the typical response time for the Nursing school. Who has heard and when did they apply? Seems like they are taking longer than the business school based on what I am hearing. Thanks

Applied 8/16, portal marked complete 8/19, admitted 9/22 (so 4 weeks 6 days)

Do acceptances come out daily or certain days of the week?

Daily (except on the weekends, of course).

Good morning. Seems like most acceptances have been from Dietrich. My first son went to Pitt (Dietrich) but my current senior applied to the Business school. Its going to be a reach for him with his current stats but he’s the most driven, dynamic kid that has more recently figured out school and what it takes to succeed. My fingers are crossed that maybe he’ll have a chance at Pitt. I’ve enjoyed seeing all of your posts and exciting news. Congrats to all who have recently been admitted.

Seems to be daily around 7:15pm. Good luck!

Daughter was admitted to Nursing today with GAP in nursing! Submitted application on 9/6 and marked complete on 9/16. UW GPA: 3.98/WGPA: 4.33/Test Optional but received College Board Rural/Small Town Recognition Award/lots of good EC’s demonstrating interest in nursing.

Kiddo accepted last night to Engineering! We are thrilled. Pitt is in the top 5 for her. OOS. 3.78uw / 4.27w. 1460 SAT. NMSF. Application completed 9/20 so pretty quick turnaround. Good luck to everyone waiting!

Congratulations! Did your kiddo ask to be considered for honors college? Just wondering if the quick turnaround has anything to do with that.

Yes - she did. Not sure when the decision comes out. Does anyone know if I need to put down a housing deposit at Pitt? I am not all familiar with next steps at this school. I am willing to burn a housing deposit as long as I don’t have to officially enroll her.

The Pitt housing app isn’t available until spring. Pitt housing is not first come first serve so there is no reason to rush.

Congrats! Which major? My kid was admitted for civil engineering. We’re from NYC and thrilled. It’s the top choice, but will depend on the financial aid offered (or not). Any chance you’ll be at the 11/8 admitted students day?

Not sure if this is helpful, but my kid completed his application on 9/19, in review 9/22 and accepted 10/2 to Swanson. He was not interested in the honors college and we are out of state.
