We attended the accepted student day today for SCI. It was an overall great experience and we learned a lot about the university and her major at the school of computing and information session. I thought it was definitely more beneficial than the regular tour/information session visits. They also gave the students a lot of freebies while there and made them feel special. Only con for us was the tour was a little lacking as we didn’t go in many buildings, like the new rec center or renovated library, but I get it that the campus is spread out and there was a lot of construction around closing sidewalks. We explored a little on our own the night before so that helped. Overall I feel the visit was worth the trip.
Daughter received her acceptance to Dietrich on Friday and also received acceptance in the GAP for Speech Therapy! That second piece really has her thinking now as Pitt was high on her list, but probably not at the top initially. So happy for her.
Applied 9/24, under review 9/29 accepted 10/31. Test optional in-state applicant. 4.09 WGPA.
For people on here that have Pitt students already, what’s your thoughts on basketball game this Friday night? It’s a non-conference game but we’re up there for admitted students day on Saturday. Wondering if this will be a high attendance event to show school spirit or low attendance and giving a lackluster vibe in my child’s eyes. She’s a HUGE school spirit/sports kid.
Thanks for asking this. We are wondering the same thing. All of the fall visits are during the height of my son’s music competitions so we have to wait until spring to visit.
I also prefer spring so that any admitted student visits we do are not too far apart in time from each other - I feel say doing one now and one in March or April will be hard for C26 to really compare properly as they will forget stuff or naturally be more excited by the most recent visit. Hoping to have a shortlist of 2-3 to visit then.
Hi! Wondering if anyone has any insight into how/when Pitt typically rolls out merit decisions as well as (even if separate) honors decisions. My daughter was already accepted to Pitt Business back in October. Thanks!
My daughter has that same acceptance! Pitt was probably number 2 on her list. But she recognizes that the GAP makes it hard to choose her #1 over Pitt (if she gets in)!
Does this mean a guaranteed spot in the masters SLP program? If so, that’s HUGE. My older daughter is applying to SLP masters programs right now after majoring in something other than communication disorders as an undergrad – and spots are SO hard to get because cohorts are limited. She also has to do an extra year of leveling courses. She doesn’t regret her choices because she’s had an amazing undergrad experience, but in hindsight, this would have been the better way to do it. ![]()
Yes, it is a Guaranteed spot in the Grad program if you complete the Communication Science BA, and maintain a 3.6 overall GPA, and a 3.75 major GPA. Not an easy task, but also seems to be the level of grades needed at almost any SLP grad program these days.
This may change our daughter’s list a bit…She was really set on Penn State, and definitely likes the college town environment of State College over the urban campus at Pitt; but she does have some great friends at Pitt already so we will see!
Dtr received acceptance email yesterday-
Daughter was accepted into Business School & GAP last night.
SAT 1500 (submitted), 7APs, 4DE, OOS, lots of EC and essay was good-ish.
My daughter is a Pitt freshman this year and younger daughter will be applying in the class of 2031. My daughter was accepted Sept 23 last fall, and received her merit award Nov 21st. She did not apply for Honors College and applied test optional at Pitt. We are in-state. Hope that helps!
Merit decisions can come out any time between late October and the beginning of March. If a student receives merit, the notification might arrive fairly quickly after acceptance, or it might take months… so be patient and don’t lose hope. ![]()
Honors decisions come separately from merit. We do not know exactly how honors decisions will be rolling out this year. It seems to be different from previous years since some students have already received their notifications.
Both merit and honors will arrive as an email notification and a letter in the student’s portal.
This is the thread to follow for merit decisions (and people have posted some honors decisions there too): Merit @ Pitt - HS Class of 2026
Thank you for sharing this. What school is she in and how does she like it?
She’s pre-health in Dietrich and will be applying to SHRS this winter/spring as she has all of the gen eds/preqs completed mostly through her HS dual enrollment and college credits (Pitt accepted 70crs we were thrilled). She’s looking at the potential of a double major within SHRS and has a minor as well outside of Dietrich.
She loves Pitt! She’s living her best life there and such a great fit and choice for her. Food is about the only thing she has complained about but cafeteria food anywhere might face similar criticism
She’s excited to be off the meal plan next year living off campus.
Daughter admitted to Dietrich last night - Political Science.
3.76 UW/4.14 W 1330 SAT (submitted). OOS. Applied 10/10. Paperwork Final 10/16. Admitted 11/5. Good luck to all
Son admitted tonight 11/6. Application complete 10/13
Congrats! Details of major, campus and GPA would be helpful for the group
Dietrich Pre-med 104 GPA weighted 10/350 class rank
Hi! My D26 also applied to the DNID major, and got honors plus merit as well! ![]()
We haven’t visited yet but have booked an admitted students tour in February (can’t make it to any of the full admitted students days, unfortunately).
I was wondering if you’d solved the mystery of Dietrich vs. Computing for DNID? If you Google this major, it comes up under the college of Computing, and we did a virtual info session through Computing, where they very specifically talked about the details of this major. But the acceptance letter says Dietrich.
I realize it’s interdisciplinary – but degrees through Computing cost $6,000 more per year, so I’d love to know how they treat this one. (And also, for tours, which college should we be looking at?)
Do you have any insight? ![]()
