My son applied test optional on 8/4 and heard back Thursday night 8/28. He did apply via Pitt’s app (vs Common App). I’m not sure that matters but I highly recommend using the school’s respective app vs Common App where possible. In the 24 cycle my daughter applied 8/2 and heard back 8/30 (she’s now a sophomore at Pitt).
last year they were usually thursday and friday nights. my D25 applied in mid october, heard in mid november. this year D26 applied the first week. good luck to all! hoping for good news this friday .
My child is applied August 1st to Public Health, under review since 8/6. They are very borderline with 3.68 unweighted, 4 honors, 1 12th grade honors and 2 12th grade AP’s. Not submitting SATs. Has tons of EC’s in healthcare, leadership roles in sports and school activities. Any thoughts on how this may play out from experience?
My S22 had a very similar UW GPA – less impressive ECs – but submitted a 1420 SAT and took a few more AP classes (6 total, I think). He applied in September and was accepted in about 4 weeks – College of Arts and Sciences. If I had to guess, I would think borderline applicants (and I have no idea if that would include your child, whose stats look okay to me) might have to wait longer for a decision so admissions can compare them against a wider applicant pool.
Which leads me to the question I was going to ask: Is there any option besides accept or deny? In non-rolling schools, early applicants are sometimes deferred. Does that happen at Pitt? Or do they just wait longer to make a decision if they are not sure yet?
This was several years back, but my son had lower stats than anyone mentioned here. His gpa was 3.2 uw, 3.6 w, and SAT was 1220. He has several honors classes but only one AP. He was essentially deferred. They asked to see first semester grades which don’t come out until January. He had a very good semester and was admitted a couple weeks after submitting his first semester grades so it was probably about February when he received his acceptance. He graduated from Pitt in 2023.
I have no prior experience to draw on, but for the School of Public Health, the class profile posted on the Pitt website for incoming students in 2024 shows a middle 50% WEIGHTED GPA of 3.60-4.25, so it looks like your student with a 3.68 unweighted would fall in range. Also 70.1% of students applied test optional. And your child’s ECs sound great. So I wouldn’t necessarily call your student borderline.
Last week, the first people who started to see decision letters were on Wednesday and Thursday, so probably expected to see more either late tonight or throughout the week.
Has anyone received any acceptance letter yesterday. I saw some students received them last Wednesday and Thursday. My son applied on 8/1 and on 8/5 his application was complete and under review. Hoping we hear soon.
I think this portal was updated/new last year (it is definitely different than when my S22 applied). I skimmed last year’s thread awhile back but didn’t notice any mention of portal changes/tells
