Hello University of San Diego applicants and parents!
Figured it was time to start the waiting game together…
S24 is from Montana, visited in June. USD had best tour and tour guide of all our CA school stops (including Santa Clara, Cal Poly, LMU). Applied EA at Santa Clara and was admitted there.
Wondering about the campus culture at USD (and, if possible, in comparison to Santa Clara and Cal Poly). Thoughts?
We are taking part in the USD Parent Seminar on January 10.
I attended the USD Parent Seminar this week too. Looks like admission decisions will be released the first week of March, based on their presentation.
In terms of campus culture, I get the impression they are all very different. DD applied to the same schools and has visited all of them (we are in SoCal). Cal Poly SLO was by far the most laid back student body - pajama pants and big groups walking together laughing. SCU students were well dressed. Less pajamas and more pulled together. Students seemed happy too, but rushing around more than SLO.
Visited USD and felt like a combo of the two. Our tour guide at USD was also fantastic. Very warm and full of information. Sadly, our experience at SCU tour wasn’t great, even though we know it’s a great school…
Thank you. That’s helpful. We’ve been thinking SCU is a bit more academic. The student panel part of our tour sounded driven, but also happy with community. Work hard, play hard. Didn’t get a good feel for Cal Poly on our tour.
We thought the USD presentation was meaningful on a liberal arts curriculum, freedom to explore majors, thoughtful career support from the first.
I thought I heard them promise decisions in the first two weeks of March.
Those student reps were just outstanding, articulate representatives.
Was part of financial aid webinar for USD last night. Really strong presentation.
When asked in the Questions section when students will hear back on their applications, the Director of Admission answered: late February to early March.
I emailed my S24’s admissions counselor. She was very helpful to share the following:
They will have admission decisions by the first week of March.
They expect to have financial aid letters in the first week or two of April (after only receiving FAFSA info themselves by mid-March).
The main Torrero Visit Day (600-900 guests) is scheduled for April 6th. Other Torrero for a Day events (around 60 guests) will be April 16th, 19th, 23rd, 26th.
And…in light of the delayed FAFSA information, USD has extended their commitment/deposit deadline to May 15.
The account with the countdown clock ticking down to March 1 at midnight PST is Not the USD Admissions account. It’s the ‘Official’ USD class of 2028 Instagram account where student hopefuls are posting their bios. It says it’s run by USD students.
Friday is an educated guess for sure. But…less clarity than I thought. Please forgive the mistake.
Same my son’s portal had a new tab for admissions and said congratulations you’ve been admitted. Not much more info than that. Lots of links, but they didn’t seem to work properly. Still exciting!
