University of San Diego Class of 2028 Official Thread

DS Accepted this afternoon as well! This was his #1 so very relieved! No mention of merit yet, but we’ll wait patiently! Only 3 schools left to hear from…what a process! All new to me…I just went to our state university 100 years ago.

USD admissions responded to a comment on instagram that merit aid was listed in the acceptance email. If none was listed then none was received.

My daughter has that tab in her portal that says “now that you’ve been accepted …” but still no email. Kinda underwhelming.

My daughter was waitlisted as well. She got into SDSU on the 1st day with an invite to the honor’s school, so it’s surprising. She liked the campus and was considering it but as others said, she’s going to have to move on as waiting until after May 15 is just far too late to find out if you have a chance.

S24 received Alcala Scholarship (in second email from USD)
3.93 UW gpa, 6 AP, 4 Honors, 5 Dual Enrollment, 1 College Business Class
State Champion sport, 1st Chair Instrument, Service thru Church, Mountain and River Recreationalist, Spanish Focus (along with all the good and hard stuff of high school)
Toured USD in summer.
Grateful and excited for sure tonight. Wishing best to all!

D24 got accepted with Trustee scholarship. Was in same email. Also accepted into SDSU. Hoping for the trifecta and that she gets into UCSD. Fingers crossed.

So some people got an admission e-mail and a separate one with merit, some one admission email with merit in it?

This may help. We received two emails.

First email was from USD Office of Admissions and titled "Admission Update from the University of San Diego.’ It said this:

‘Your University of San Diego application status has recently been updated. Click on the button below to learn more. (You’ll want to click this button …trust us.)

Second email came an hour later from S’s admissions counselor, titled “USD Admissions Update.” It started, 'Dear S24,

'Congratulations! On behalf of the faculty and staff of the University of San Diego, I am pleased to inform you that you have been admitted for the Fall 2024 semester. Welcome to our community!

'Based on your exceptional record of accomplishment and high potential to make a contribution during your university years, Dr. Gail F. Baker, Senior Vice President and Provost, has named you a University of San Diego Alcalá Award recipient. …

’ For a closer look at the opportunities that await you, please take a few minutes to review our [web page for admitted first-year students], which outlines specific procedures and dates important to you in the enrollment process…’

Thank you!

After receiving 11 acceptances, and 3 EA deferrals, this was S24’s first outright rejection.

If people are comfortable doing so, will you add stats (for accepted and denied) if you haven’t? It will be helpful to next year’s applicants (though we all know admissions is a bit of a random crap shoot).

As a parent, I definitely understand this is a business decision for the university; lots of qualified applicants in this pool for sure! May have been a top choice for my kid, if the financials were there, but she did get acceptances from CSUs, including SDSU and LB as well as privates - LMU & Chapman (both still too expensive after merit) and St. Mary’s (great merit, decent COA, but not at the top of her list). Also got deferred EA from Pepperdine. Still waiting for SLO and the UCs.

Congrats to everyone that got accepted!
