S24 Admitted. No merit - He emailed his admission counselor who said that the 4pm PST email would have included any merit aid if it was awarded. I’m surprised given he’s received good merit aid at LMU, Chapman, USFCA, and many east coast schools. Oh well. Crossed off the list. Beautiful campus tho!

Update, just got 23k! The financial award email didn’t send at first! Still going to aim for 28 and appeal.

USD has an agreement with the diocese supported Catholic high schools in San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino county that if you have a 3.79 gpa+ you are admitted. It is called the Torero Promise.

My child was accepted and got a merit scholarship. My family did not apply for financial aid because we would not qualify. This makes me believe that the university truly looks at each application in a holistic way not only when they determine admissions but also merit scholarships. So many of today’s high school students have amazing GPAs, extracurriculars, and top test scores. My feeling is that college app essays and leadership can make a difference.

My S is thinking about going down to San Diego from Montana for the Torero Visit Day on April 6th.

He’d need to stay a couple nights. Anyone know if USD ever sets prospective/admitted students up with ambassadors to stay overnight on campus?

Is there a formal appeal process for merit aid?

Looks like it:

Thank you!

Again- thinking of sending S24 down to Torero Visit Day. But. Might join him for the adventure (and give him lots of space).

Any parents headed to the weekend on April 6?

Prolly not since it’s the week after spring break. I hope they push their decision date to May 15 so there’s a little more time to get out and visit.

Good news for you: USD has indeed officially pushed their decision date to May 15!

My child still does not have a decision (portal just says complete and ready for review) and admissions counselor is completely non responsive. Pretty unimpressive.

Interesting, my son just this morning got an email about merit aid. He was given the USD trustee scholar - $23,000. So if you weren’t offered aid initially there might be hope.

That’s so hard! Have you called the admissions office?

Exactly same scenario for my daughter. SDSU accepted with Honors invite. Waitlisted from USD. She’s sad and confused. 34 ACT, 4.4 WGPA, lots of ec’s. Ah well…
