University of San Diego Class of 2028 Official Thread

Any news from admission?

Nothing yet. Daughter emailed and called (left voicemail). She doesn’t seem to really care (she’s in at SDSU and a few others) and I’m the hands off type so if she is ok not knowing, I am too. Thanks!

Ok. My S24 and I are headed to San Diego for the April 6 Torero Visit Day. They expect 600-900 guests. (There is a Merit day on the 4th, but it should be a bigger festival open-house atmosphere on Saturday, the 6th.)

Admissions says that they do not set prospective students up for an overnight stay. We have a friend whose son is there now and are hoping our DS might stay with him on Friday or Saturday night (or both) and absorb a bit of the on-campus feel.

USD is now happily his number one intended, though we will take a final look at all financial aid letters. But we are not planning to send him to any other admitted student days in CA from Montana.

Anyone coming for the 6th?

Did you end up submitting an appeal and if so, have you heard back?

Not yet but I will this weekend and let you know!

Would love to know how to appeal merit. At my older son’s school, you wrote to the admissions counselor. Anyone know the procedure for USD?

I would like to know as well.

Merit appeals are handled through Admissions. I’d write the counselor and ask.

USD got their first FAFSA report on Thursday. And S24 got his financial aid offer yesterday. The wheels are beginning to move.

See some of you there at Torero Visit Day on Saturday!

The portal says they received his FAFSA on Thursday. I hope we will see an offer soon.

Does anyone know when people will be notified about the waitlist? As well as the amount of students that typically get off the waitlist?

According to the latest common data set for USD, for the entering class of Fall 2023, they waitlisted 3617 students and out of that number, 2095 accepted their spot on the waitlist. Of those 2095, only 102 were offered a spot in the class from the waitlist.

This year, USD indicated they offered 2,000 waitlist offers. My D24 emailed her AO this week, and he reiterated that they will not have any idea of waitlist activity until all deposits for admitted students were accounted for (after May 15). He also said some years they have many waitlist openings and others, none at all. Stated not to expect any financial or merit aid if accepted from the waitlist, and to move forward with another school. It wasn’t a very positive email to be honest.

Any news?

He got it the day after I posted.

Thoughts on admitted student day anyone?

Admitted Student Day on April 6 was really confirming for us for many reasons: the strong ethos for mentoring/advising/investing in students not only for their education, but for their whole-person growth and vocational direction; the creative hands-on learning opportunities afforded by small class size; the value for education leading to service; the student life/happiness (ranked third in nation for a reason, said the students); the beauty of campus; the laid-back atmosphere; the diversity of the student population (especially the joy of Spanish spoken on campus); and the study abroad program (80% of students going abroad, a Madrid center where 200 students/semester enjoy time in Spain, and a sophomore intersession January program where this year’s class will choose between Auckland, New Zealand, and Florence, Italy!)

We are grateful for S24’s admissions to Cal Poly, Santa Clara, Texas Christian. But he has committed to USD. And as a parent, I feel really good about the fit for him.

(Another winning point: ‘The University of San Diego Parents’ Facebook group demonstrates what a generous, grounded community of support these students have.)

Have any transfer students heard from admissions yet?
