Great question!
How do you recalculate? My D cones from a school with letters not numbered grades.
Does anyone know if merit awards could be offered later, closer to May? Or, if the acceptance letter would be the only time merit would be communicated?
I just used the middle for letters - so for an Honors class that was an A I used 4.5.
It will be on a rolling basis is my understanding
D24 accepted OOS pre-ib, but no mention of merit anywhere. Wondering if merit will come later
Curious about this too - I guess a housing deposit these days is not a commitment to enroll but at least shows interest in the school. But if we show interest what is their incentive to give you more $$$??? Its confusing.
The housing deposit though is non-refundable right?
I have no idea - we are researching this as we speak. If you figure it out or if anyone has any insight please post it here.
I believe you have to put down the admission deposit before they let you do housing but Iâm not sure.
What did your daughterâs friend do? Did she enroll/apply for housing before the 96k?
we were deferred EA then Waitlisted, offered and accepted in mid March. Housing worked out fine for DD, in Campus Village 1 this year as frosh
write admissions counselor for your area on intent to attend! Stand out from the numbers game!!
She hadnât committed yet.
Housing for freshman is generally pretty good. There are several LLCs (Living Learning Communities) you can join. The Campus Village is a group of dorms that a lot of freshman want because they are the newest (but further away). I donât think USC has had the issues with lack of housing that some of the larger universities have had so you will have a room even if you wait until the deadline to accept and enroll. If you find a roommate before housing selection, the person with the earliest pick amongst you will choose the dorm and room for everyone in that room (or suite if you want to add in suite mates and choose a dorm that are suite style). You do not have to have suite mates when you make your choice though.
Also another benefit of being named a Top Scholar is that they get first choice in rooms freshman year.
Thanks very much, what determines âthe earliest pickâ - is it in order of admission deposit or random?
Same for my daughter. Deferred from UofSC and College of Charleston. I also read somewhere that these schools got inundated with early applications and didnât have time to go through them all, so they deferred a lot. Itâs a bummer to have to wait a few more months. Best of luck!
My daughter was admitted EA last year, but she did not commit until mid April, and she got Campus Village 1, which was her first choice. It is âpod styleâ, which means it is a normal 2 person dorm room, but instead of 1 big community style bathroom/shower there are multiple individual showers and bathrooms along their hall. She preferred that over the apartment style âquadsâ because they get their bathrooms cleaned daily and she said there are always plenty available. The quads do go really fast, and specifically Patterson was pretty much full the first day housing opened. You can also join an LLC, which is basically a small community within the university that are tied to particular dorms. If you are accepted into a LLC, that means you get first pick in the dorm that LLC belongs to. She is in the honors LLC, but she did not want to live in the honors dorm, so she ended up having a pretty late time based on her late commitment date. She also went random, which is also super helpful because she wasnât worried about trying to get a dorm that her entire friend group could fit in. One of the biggest problems were groups of 4 who were trying to stay together, but it was hard to find something open that would fit everyone. There was a big push to create these suitemate groups via instagram and lock each other in, but that was just too stressful and end of senior year was too chaotic for her to focus on that.
For example, we paid the housing deposit on Dec 21st last year and he had Day 2 @3 pm of the housing selection cycle which is pretty early. He got his second choice Campus Village 2 as his first choice Patterson was full. Seemed to be the most popular dorm due to renovation and location
