University of South Carolina Early Action for Fall 2025

So am I understanding we need to pay school enrollment deposit and housing and they are both non refundable? I worry if pay too early then won’t be considered for merit they assume we would come without it

The time of your pick is based on when you submit your application. Roommate matching is also based on application submission (essentially they allowed all who had submitted an application by 2/5 to enter and begin choosing roommates first, then if you had you application for housing submitted by 3/25 you got to enter and look for a roommate by 4/2. Otherwise you could not look for a roommate until 5/10). There are plenty who wait to submit their application or haven’t chosen a roommate even if they got to begin looking in February. However my daughter was anxious and we got her application for housing in by the second deadline at the end of March to begin looking for a roommate. As long as someone in your room group submitted their housing application early, you should have a choice of where to live.

I wish we had submitted test optional. I don’t think we can retract that now. A couple of my kid’s friends got in TO. They had lower GPAs and no honors or AP. We didn’t think that submitting test optional looked good but maybe it’s a strategy we should have thought more about. Good luck in March!

My thoughts and many others is TO is good if you have a hard curriculum and High GPA and you don’t score above 1300. To me a test doesn’t add much since now adays you can take many course to help you take the test while it doesn’t give you a full idea of the way the student performs.

I can’t believe they got in with no honors or AP classes. my sons best friend went TO but has a good Gpa most honors and several AP classes. it weird how they choose. I would prefer the child with better rigor. He got deferred. My son got accepted but has 11 AP and rest honors. I don’t understand the admission process. Lol

My daughter went TO because she wanted to get into the Honors College and knew her SAT score would likely kick her out of contention. Going TO likely meant that she received less scholarship $$ (based on other students from her school who got in and sent their SAT scores (similar class rank and SAT score to what she had) - she got the next lowest level) - but she did get into the Honors College and they did not. So for her, it was worth it because she was applying for nursing and wanted that direct admit that Honors gave her.

Why wouldn’t you just wait to commit?

Nope, no honors or AP, all college prep (regular) classes at a private school. Her SAT was 1250. Maybe it was what major she chose? Glad she got in, though.

Hope your child gets in. it must be the major I agree. I didn’t think of that. the majors with science and math prob look at rigor and higher level classes. best of luck we only have 12 more schools to wait for

Could you please share the source of this graphic? I’d like to review the stats. Thanks for sharing!

I took a screen shot from someone who posted on FB. From that thread they said it was posted on IG and originated on a USC admissions handle (one of their many IG pages).

I saw it too this morning but then I couldn’t find it again.

The enrollment fee is refundable I believe but not the housing deposit. We were ok with the potential of losing the housing deposit if he decided to go elsewhere. As for merit, he still got it in March even after paying the deposit

I wonder when the early round of Honors decisions will release. In prior years those released between Dec 20 and Dec 23, but EA admissions decisions were a week prior. Maybe they will wait until after the New Year.

Are students eligible for OOS Scholarship, if they were admitted TO?

Yes, but they may not receive anything until March if it wasn’t mentioned in the acceptance letter. It’s going to depend on the overall pool of accepted students because the class competes against itself.

5 for us!

I was wondering the same thing. Last year was December 21…(Thursday). I was thinking it might be yesterday but with the silence on the board, I’m guessing not.

I don’t see anything on the website about a release date. Has anyone heard? You would think they would put a release by date out there.

SC uses the grade average and a weighted scale. If a student got a 100 in a non-honors/AP/DE class, they would get 5.0 points. Honors class 100 5.5 points. AP/DE 6.0 points.

For every point below 100, they take off 0.1 points. If they had a non-honors 99, 4.9 points. Honors 99, 5.4 points, AP/DE 5.9 points. And so on.
