DD got rejected from honors as well. IS. She got accepted under EA. It was so competitive. I agree that this one stung a bit.
Honors college accepted, and was accepted to pre-nursing in earlier EA round which means that USC is a direct admit nursing school now for her. Was previously given the $96K+ scholarship. OOS, 35 ACT, non-ranking school. She got into Northeastern, Clemson, Tennessee (waitlisted honors), Purdue (honors), Ohio State (honors) and many others. Deferred at UGA, denied Wisconsin-Madison.
Big problem though is that Iâm a Clemson grad. Her question to me was âwould you pay $30K more for me to go to Clemson so you donât have to write checks to this school?â. She will receive âmeritâ at Clemson (in an amount that she will find out in March), but am admittedly sad that there is no way that it will be competitive price-wise with her other offers.
Is Clemson direct admit to nursing too? I would say with Honors that USC is her best option (b/t Clemson and USC). Especially since USCâs Honorâs college is the #1 Ranking Public College in the nation. Whatâs her order of preference?
Would Clemson match to get her?
For those who did not get honors while I appreciate you are disappointed, from experience my son had zero problem thriving in the business program, and USC in general, without being in honors. My current accepted son didnât even bother to apply because (for him) it didnât feel necessary. They both got the instate (plus more) scholarships and that is/was super appealing. The school is amazing in general and the opportunities through Darla Moore (at least) extend way beyond honors programming.
My son is still deciding between USC and a couple others but I would be thrilled if he chose here.
I doubt it. They are known for being stingy with the merit.
Great reminder. That is how my child felt about the other schools on the list. Itâs all good. These kids will thrive wherever the choose to plant themselves, as long as they are open to experiences.
Clemson is direct admit to nursing. Her first choice would be to combine the honors college and price of USC, with the quality and reputation rank of Iowaâs top-ranked nursing program, with Tennesseeâs brand new nursing building, and have that all be based at Clemson, but with the proximity of clinicals at the UofMN.
Tough decisions to make, but she is blessed to have choices.
I will sayâŠsheâs never seen a palmetto bug that Iâm aware of yet (we live up north), so if I show her a pic of one of those that might factor in her decision.
Right?!?
We did the same. We committed to VT after receiving their Honors College. Itâs no loss to us since we were more impressed with her department at VT than SC.
Sorry but I canât find the info- when will deferred applicants find out - is there a date yet? thanks
It says March in my sonâs deferral letter. However, when my nephew was deferred 2 years ago he received his acceptance in February. I think they just guarantee by mid March.
Congratulations on your daughter getting into the Smart Start nursing program at USC! My daughter is a freshman in the program currently. So far it has been fantastic. She loves the honors college and absolutely loved that she got to take some of the pre-nursing classes that can be 100+ students (like Anatomy and Physiology) in a class with less than 30 students. Very happy kids at USC.
Were those honors versions of the classes that were less than 30 persons?
Got deferred EA and was wondering if anyone knows from previous or current years if going on a campus tour would increase my chances for regular decision? Or sending an email to admissions even though the portal says to not send grades, loci etc.
I really want to get in. Thanks!!
I would imagine it couldnât hurt.
This was probably discussed already, but is there any way I can know if I am receiving any scholarship from UofSC as a nonresident if it wasnât listed in my acceptance letter in December? I saw on their website the types of scholarships they give, and I fit some of the standards for some of them but have heard nothing yet.
Theyâll update about scholarships you received in March.
Not to start button gate, but has anyone noticed any changes in their portal? In the application status section ours looks slightly different than the other day. It did say Application Status: Awaiting Decision.
Today says Application Status:SubmittedAwaiting Decision and there is no space between Submitted and Awaiting. We would have definitely noticed that since itâs all one word
Yes, same here!
