University of Tennessee Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

Daughter was accepted EA for 2nd choice major, also waiting for nursing decision. No update yet.

Did they indicate to you that it would be an update in the portal or an email? Someone told us we should know by the end of February. What was your understanding on timing?

We were told there would be an answer by today, but they didn’t say whether through email or portal.

Waitlisted. Not surprised since we are OOS and SAT was below what we were told was the minimum. Actually assumed we would get a rejection today. She got accepted at her #1 this weekend so over the moon happy here!

My kid and all of her friends except one (admitted) got waitlisted. Only heard of one outright denial.

Was offered pathway with direct admit to UT for fall of 2026 if completed 24 course hours and maintain a 3.0.

Waitlisted. OOS business, 32 act, 3.96 gpa. Have decided to do engineering elsewhere (likely Ohio state) but it’s humbling for sure

Waitlisted. OOS Haslam. 4.1 GPA. Will join waitlist. Might consider Verto but not the other pathways. Currently have generous scholarships from 3 other SEC flagships, so at least there are other great options. Still stings though. Esp bc we know about 10 people who are declining their EA acceptances. :frowning:

I know last year was unique due to FAFSA issues and some in state acceptance changes but they did take almost 80% of those who chose to be on the waitlist. Previous years is was closer to 10%. It will be interesting to see what this year looks like.

We got an outright denial.

A friend who contacted someone who seems to be an admissions expert shared that this year’s waitlist admittance numbers will look more like 2022 and 2023 and not like 2024, per the reasons listed above.

My daughter got the guaranteed transfer. She’s not interested in that, and is excited about a different option.

Son selected waitlist only from the options. Are the waitlist decisions issued on a rolling basis or is there a particular day when he will find out?

Generally -

Schools will start pulling from waitlists after 5/1 (the commit date). At that point they’ll have an understanding of their yield and if there are any open spots - and in which programs those open spots are.

They’ll then start extending offers to applicants that fall into the categories they might be looking to fill. They’ll give a period of time for the applicant to respond and accept the admittance before they move on down the waitlist further.

Any waitlist movement?

My son finally made his decision to attend UTK. The next steps seem a bit confusing. If this is the wrong thread or if there is a thread that answers my questions, please lmk.
We paid deposit. He is in honors. It seems all summer orientation is virtual? No mention of honors advisor, how do we find out who his advisor is? No mention of housing? I am so confused. This is very different from my other 3 experiences. TIA
