One significant difference is that Tennessee’s business program is direct admit. On the other hand at Georgia the students have to apply after two years and it’s a competitive process where there are no guarantees.
I have a sophomore University of Tennessee in the Department of engineering. His experience at the university in general has been great my younger child is deciding between Georgia, Tennessee, and a few other schools
Also, the ease of flying in and out of Knoxville is a huge plus. Athens is not easy to get to out of state.

Update:
First, thanks to everyone in this community who helped give advice and info. My S26 ended up stacking a bunch of internal UT scholarships and external merit $, to the point it was almost a free ride even though OOS. In the process, I learned a LOT about the UT process, and also discovered that all the staff the Admissions and Engineering department were really great. Just terrific folks.
However, he also ended up getting acceptances to a lot of other schools, and ended up going a different direction. No easy choices, but all good ones. Go Vols!
