University of Tennessee Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

That is true, I guess. It just isn’t the case here, as a B+ is only an 87-89. And, we have the opposite issue that the two of you have noted. We have an ACT of 34 and his UTK is 3.72. He got 5s on both AP exams. His lowest grade is a B and he only has two of those. The rest are higher. But, from 9th through 11th, he only has two APs and 4 Honors, which is why his UTK GPA is “lower”. He has more AP and Honors in 12th but doesn’t help him now  So, I do hope, as you say, that they look at the entire application.

Definitely with you on appreciating a holistic approach from UTK. Should help our applicant in at least a couple of ways, even though his ACT’s not holding him back and he doesn’t have any C+ blips or anything on his transcript.

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked and saw that her recalculated GPA is now 4.02, so that is somewhat good news, I guess?

Yes/No/Maybe - you don’t really know since it’s just their way of recalculating them to compare across applicants. If the increase helps clear a threshold for one of the auto-merit scholarships that can be very good!

But they have to standardize it some way…one could argue that kids from schools that don’t give pluses and minus at all would be penalized if the college weights them differently than the simple letter grade.

It seems strange that the fine arts class is on there. At least at our school, those aren’t weighted, so just having that as one of the classes brings down the recalculated GPA.

OOS son with 1460 SAT and 4.03 UTK GPA applied EA about 3 weeks ago to the College of Education, Health and Human Services. A few days later, he received an email inviting him to apply to the Honors programs which he was excited about and plans to submit the additional essays/video. I don’t want to read too much into the invitation but I would hope this means more likely an acceptance to the university overall. Anyone have experience with this?

I wondered the same thing when our OOS S25 got the emails.

D25 applied early 9/20, with GPA of 3.84/4.0 scale 1250 SAT. Several AP, mostly honors courses, varsity gymnastics and varsity soccer. Shortly after applying she got an email that her application was being reviewed but she does not show a GPA in her portal. Wondering if that’s not good news. Am I reading too much into that? The portal states it will be recalculated after admission, but I’m reading some are seeing it already.

I deleted my post because it was on wrong thread.

Did you complete the SRAR, Self Reported Academic Record, and connect it to your UTK portal? They recalculate the GPA based on core classes in SRAR.

I apologize. I posted on the wrong thread! Ignore what I said. Agree the SRAR needs to be done.

Agree with the others. S25 UTK GPA is showing on the GPA tab based on his linked SRAR.

If you’ve done the SRAR, maybe you are looking at the wrong thing? You go in the portal, click on the tab that says “GPA & Tests”, scroll down to under the orange bar (which I at first thought was the end of the page, with just boilerplate below.) Then there should be something like this. The highlighted part is the thing that gets calculated now (I just blacked out my child’s GPA, but a number should be there). Then there is a blank part underneath that for the number that they will calculate later.

Thanks so much! I appreciate the detailed steps. We pulled it up and we were not looking in the correct place. It’s there. Now we wait.

Daughter was invited to an Honors college information breakfast that unfortunately she was unable to attend. Is this typically a good sign that she will be admitted? OR does everyone get this invite? Thanks

Does everyone get an invitation to apply to the honors college? My child got an email plus postage requesting her to apply. Her GPA is 3.87 UW and 4.08 W. That seems on low side for HC. I don’t want her to waste time if it was a mass mailing

I don’t think so. My son’s GPA is higher than that, and he did not receive an invitation to apply. Maybe it’s based on test scores?

Child’s ACT was 31
