University of Virginia Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

Same oos. Have high hopes tho

S25 waitlisted. Still surprised he didn’t get into EA but now even more so. In state, nova, 1510, 4.0UW, 13 AP/DE including MV, Diff Eq, leadership, work, sports, volunteering. Was a sea of green on our naviance. Crazy crazy year. Was trying for engineering.

D25 got waitlisted. We will look into the Year in Wise option.

Same. I hope my OOS son moves on but I know he won’t since UVA is his top choice. After an EA deferral and RD waitlist, 2 or 3 more months of this is not healthy for anyone. Would be curious though how many were waitlisted. I can’t find the 24-25 common data set, not sure when it is supposed to be available.

UVA RD Results Survey 2025

This form is for tracking decision results, so it’s all centralized for future students. If you could fill this out once you get your decision, that would be very appreciated!

You can see all other people’s individual responses in the links above, along with overall form statistics (such as what percent got accepted).

I’m sorry for your son…I’m sure he has wonderful choices! My in-state nova son was also in your same boat with UVA - moved onto Purdue and never looked back! He’s very happy and I really feel like everything happens as it should. Best of luck to him if at UVA eventually or somewhere else!

Hi, would appreciate some clarification on the UVA Wise transfer program:I

  1. Is UVA WISE only for Waitlisted students (not denials)?
  2. Is it open to out of state students or only Virginians?

Googled the above but unable to get a clear answer.
Thank you!

Below is the statement from UVA Waiting List:

If you’re a Virginia resident on the waiting list for the College of Arts and Sciences, you have the opportunity to enroll at the UVA College at Wise, located in southwest Virginia, for one year before automatically enrolling at UVA in Charlottesville. Students in this program must complete 30 hours of transferrable credit during their first year at UVA Wise and earn a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better. You will still be on the waiting list for first year admission to UVA if you express interest in the UVA Wise option.

This agreement provides entry to the College of Arts and Sciences. Students pursuing this opportunity will not have the opportunity to major in the McIntire School of Commerce within a four year timeline. It is recommended that all students pursuing this opportunity identify a top choice major within the College of Arts and Sciences.

And here’s the link to Year in Wise

I’m just perplexed. My son doesn’t know anyone who was deferred who got in yesterday. Anyone here accepted from EA or ED deferral?

He has other acceptances he is happy with and still waiting on many more RD decisions the next 2 weeks.

I was deferred ED then waitlisted RD

Anyone from previous years have any advice for getting off the waitlist? And how the process works, are they reevaluating my application or is it purely based on if they have space?

Good luck in the next couple of weeks! I’m sure there are some acceptances from EA or ED deferral, but I haven’t heard of any. Honestly, these kids are so tired of this never-ending process that I’m trying not to ask a lot of questions!

S25 also ED deferred and waitlisted in state (NOVA). All his fellow IB classmates were waitlisted as well.

What is NOVA? Northern VA?

Yes, Northern Virginia.

hey, at least UVA is offering the Wise option to waitlisted VA kids who applied to the College of Arts and Sciences. In VT’s waitlist letter, the dean of admissions flat out said to go CC and then transfer to VT because that’s how she got in

I concur (VT)… :joy:

Thank you! Bummed for oos students… Looks like the transfer route for oos students is competitive with very low admit rate. Heartbroken DS25.
