Does anyone know when honors college will come out?

Are they rolling or do they all drop at the same time? And is there any sort of pattern for when they typically come out like the 1st week of april?

I’m not sure sorry. I didn’t apply to the honors program myself, so I’m not really tracking it too closely.

Yes, this is accurate.

We have a good family friends son there who rushed and was required to live in the house. I believe the same is true for sororities.

Not sure of the reason for it.

I believe–based on a few direct connections at the UW, that being accepted to the UW, when applying for a nondirect major, everyone is defaulted into College of Arts and Sciences, with the ā€œpreā€ designation as to what you intend to study and apply to once the prerequisites are met for that particular major. My son was accepted to UW with a ā€œpre Architecture and Urban Planningā€ for what he applied as a Real Estate major within the College of Architecture and Built Environments. But, we are still waiting to confirm.

Based on how it was many moons ago, this is correct info. I am interesting in understanding more about Fraternities at UW.

Honors College email is out

I have heard this too. Although he was not going to UW, my son attended a few (informal? dirty?) rush events over the summer with friends who were rushing. Summer rush and the freshman living situation may be standard for some greek houses at other PNW schools like Idaho and Wazzu?! Not sure why.
At some private schools rush is being pushed entirely to sophomore year. And I thought SEC Greek life was over the top!

My son hasn’t received anything from Honors one way or the other. Anyone else?

UW was pretty much the only school my kid was excited about due to being in state and having some anxiety issues- it was the option that allowed her to have a true college experience but also being just across the bridge from us. She was waitlisted and I want to set our mental expectations correctly. Last year over 70% of waitlisted kids were admitted but the prior two years it was less than 10%. Anyone have any insight as to these trends and what it could look like this year?

Sorry to hear! It’s really difficult to predict a waitlist with any confidence, but it has really seemed like the admitted students from the waitlist may lean heavier from the out-of-state group. Universities aim for a certain number of OOS students to pay that higher tuition. Looks like UW now aims for 1,700-1,900 range and they use the waitlist to fill-in as needed. The 2022 class was larger than they wanted at over 7,400 so they didn’t use the waitlist much, they initially seemed to accept fewer kids last year (2023), likely in an attempt to avoid another over-sized class, and then they relied heavier on the waitlist to fill in. The 2023 class was smaller at right near 7,000.

It seems they may be having challenges estimating the ā€œyieldā€ with the huge increase in applications received after UW moved over to the common app in 2023. 52,000 apps were received in 2022 prior to the move, and now it’s up to 69,000 this year. I suspect they’ll use the waitlist again this year, but it may lean towards more out-of-state and won’t be as many as last year (as they have a better feel for the post-common app yield rates). In-state yield rates also seem easier for them to estimate.

If your daughter applied to a less-constrained major that would help her chances I believe. To sum up I’d say not necessarily likely, but certainly possible. Our kids know a few who got in off the list in-state, but more who didn’t. Best of luck!

I applied for a Bdes in Industrial Design (Design in the college of Arts and Sciences), and got offered a Pre-major in the college of Arts and Sciences. Is this normal? Will I still be able to major in Design via this, and is this the path that is typically followed?

Had applied for Foster Business school. Have been admitted to U of Washington but recieved email that didn’t get into Foster . Would need to apply at the end of Sophmore year. How hard would it be yo get into Foster then if I didn’t get into it now? Weighted GPA 4.5, UW 3.98. 10 APs by end of senior year ( 6 till 11th grade ).

Does anyone know how to retrieve the official offer letter of admission from MyUW? I’m applying for an external scholarship and it requested an official letter as proof of university placement. Appreciate any forms of help!

I didn’t know about this major so I looked it up. It looks like Industrial Design isn’t a direct admission major. Students are admitted as pre-art. (source)

Here’s the admission process for this major as a UW student: Bachelor of Design Admissions | School of Art + Art History + Design | University of Washington

The standard admissions process for Foster (as a continuing UW student) is outlined here: Standard Admission | Foster School of Business

Each year, approximately 30-50% of applicants—between 550 and 650—are admitted.

I’m curious. If she get’s off wait list is she a direct admit into engineering. I just read that the waitlist is for majors that are not direct admit. I’m getting confused.

Big picture on Foster is it’s very possible to get in after your first or second year at UW. Not like the CS situation for example.

Some apply after first year, but that just depends when you complete the prereq’s (and perhaps how many credits you enter college with will play into it). You do need to keep your early grades up at UW especially in the prereq courses to have a good shot, I’ve heard 3.8+ range, but I’m sure it varies. Also, there’s a writing assessment and personal statement component. Others who don’t get accepted to Foster may choose Econ or another related major that is less constrained. Foster offers some business minors too that could be added to another degree. Not a bad option either.
