This is going to depend so much on the major (each one will have a different process), and the student.
Look into each major of interest. In addition to college GPA being a factor, there may also be a complete application similar to another college application with holistic components such as ECs, essays, etc.
One thing my son noticed at UW compared to other schools he visited was that many ECs/clubs seemed very competitive for entry as well (more than at other schools he visited). After thinking about it, we wondered if this was because the major declaration process can include ECs. So students may feel pressure to get into these ECs/clubs in order to declare a popular capped major?
Hello! Our daughter just changed her mind from UT Austin to UW this past Saturday. We are reeling, as we had already done a lot of the enrollment action items for UT. Now, we are scrambling to do all the enrollment things for UW, and she hasnât gotten to A&O registration yet. She canât see the dates since she hasnât finished the previous checklist items. Can anyone share the dates? we have some huge summer plans, and I want to make sure they donât conflict. Or even better, maybe we can try to fold them into our travel plans. Thank you!
Very cool. I wouldnât stress it too much - thereâs plenty of time. Itâs just a lot of admin stuff and most of it could be done on-line from just about anywhere. WA high schools donât get out until mid/late June for the most part, so youâll probably be ahead of the pack on much of it. Both my kids did it over the summer mixed in with travel too. Just have her work through the checklist. Last year, there was only one on-campus meeting required, and it was a couple days before class starts in late September.
Oh the games admission departments play⊠some we may agree with, and some maybe not. And yes, it can certainly incentivize applicants to play along with them.
Have any OOS admits received welcome packets by regular mail? Still havenât received a thing via mail since RD admission to Foster. I feel like those packets can help build the enthusiasm. Surprised not to have received anything yet.
UW is pretty no frills but you should try printing and stuffing 30k documents into an envelope and then seeing how long the USPS in todayâs world takes to deliver and not taking any vacation after a 6 month intensive admissions process. All for the building of excitement of 75% of the recipients who arenât going to attend.
S24 kept the package, I believe same package was sent to both in state and out of state students. The booklet has info and steps to enroll and important dates, you can find the same info online.
Yes, beyond the top top students admission departments in the flagship schools seem to get to decide who they feel is most âdeservingâ and that can be incredibly frustrating, to say the least. Particularly for in-state students.
I wish we could, but we have another commitment. I hope someone shares their impressions here. We are going to an admitted students tour and presentation on April 24th, though.
