I will be there. Going with friends even though I’m already committed elsewhere.
Is there a University of Washington waitlist thread?
Where are you comitted?
University of Florida
I’d like to know also!
Have any of you registered for the admitted student day but arent planning on going? We had a mix up and didnt register in time. Looking to see if we can slip in but it sounds like you need wrist bands to access campus buildings. If you arent going and would consider passing these on please let me know!
If you cannot find a willing transfer partner - It’s my understanding you only need the badge to get into the Hec Ed welcome presentation probably just to ensure seating for those registered. I think everything else is drop in and the HUB/Red Square stuff is obviously totally open.
Thanks for the tip!
Is there a UW school of public health thread for incoming students this fall?
Could someone who is registered for tomorrow share the schedule and other important information? There’s limited information online, and while admissions said we could come even if we didn’t register they didn’t give us any information about the schedule, parking, etc.
They updated the agenda recently. Have you found this page?
I would not count on this. You can obviously walk around campus, but to get into the sessions, you need a lanyard which you only get if registered.
This has not been true in prior years for the dozens I know whose families attended. To a person they said the only time anyone checked at all was at door of Hec Ed and if you went at start and stood is UW really escorting you out other than fire code violations? Sure there is risk but c’mon.
I hadn’t, thank you!
I would just go to another admitted student event that you can still sign up for, but if you want to risk it go ahead.
There’s an application process for Econ, but it isn’t considered to be one of the more competitive majors. Many students who aren’t admitted to Foster (business school) choose Econ. You can see the stats on many majors with a quick search. I checked Econ out of curiosity and it shows acceptance rates ranging between 70-80% the past several quarters. Another example of a technically constrained major, but very attainable with decent grades.
Just got back from admitted student day. It was great! Lots of good info. Only issue was there were just to many people there to do much and it was to hard to find some things. Let me know if anyone has any questions about how it went.
Thank you @Ae1231 for your willingness to share info. Was there any mention of pre-sciences major in any of the sessions you attended?
Some interesting things we heard to the extent it’s helpful:
-
UW went out of their way to say they look at factors other than GPA in application to capacity constrained majors, GPA is a part, but they look at a whole bunch of factors, they stressed being involved at UW for example
-
You have to declare a major at I think 100 credits, so the UW people noted that if you have a lot of APs and/or Early Start or whatever sometimes you reach that threshold way before you are ready and they won’t let you register for next term classes until you declare
-
There are classes you have to take at UW to count for capacity constrained applications - so for example English Comp - a popular AP but you’ll still need to take a certain number of credits
-
You have to take a certain number of credits at UW before applying to certain majors, this can run into the prior point on 100 credits. So again if you come in with a lot of APs and need say 60 credits at UW to apply to CS or Foster or whatever there is some juggling
-
Some classes required to meet pre-reqs to capacity constrained majors are challenging to get in and one of the answers to that was pretty regularly repeated - join a FIG that has those classes so you will get into them
-
Sorority rush - we have a daughter - move in date to the dorms for rush was I think September 6, they expected it to all be live this year no virtual
Go Huskies
Sorry, I am a business major so I did not hear much about that since I did not go to any of those sessions.
