Same for my son..top 5%, class v president, 3 sport athlete, tons of EC, all ap and honors. Waitlisted in state. What a bummer.
I just don’t want to confuse anyone on this. You just join the waitlist, then wait. That’s it. They do not allow “love letters” letters of recommendation or anything else. Nothing else can be submitted. Here’s the link. They make it all pretty clear.
Sorry for the news. This is not an enjoyable part of the process at all.
I just got a confirmation email from Udub saying they’ve received my waitlist form and that they’ll notify me between JUNE 1 and AUGUST 1 on whether I get in or not. I thought waitlist notifications started on May 15?
For those communicating recent decisions, if you’re willing to share:
In-state or out-of-state
1st major requested
Unweighted GPA
number of APs taken (or equivalent)
Accepted
OOS (SF Bay area)
Comparative History of Ideas
3.9/4.2
7 APs
Excited and surprised b/c my older 2 ds with similar stats were rejected. I am so sorry to all of you in-state. Us Californians know how you feel for sure.
That’s crazy! Your son is more than qualified.
My kid was waitlisted last year. We started to hear about acceptances off the waitlist in mid June but things were also delayed last year due to the issues with fafsa so about two weeks later than this years timeline. The officially closed the waitlist sometime in July. He tried to appeal but it did not work. Every year is different though.
GS (grandson) seems to have taken the wait list decision in stride and has pivoted his thinking toward his back up. He was admitted to the college of engineering at Portland State and we toured last summer. Even if he’s admitted off the wait list, how sure can he be that he’ll get the engineering program he wants?
Kiddo accepted, OOS, engineering, 4.0 UW, 1560 SAT (but not submitted, right?). Took most of the AP classes offered at their school (~ 7), 4 DE math classes beyond Calc B/C, 3-sport varsity athlete and captain of 2, several engineering & tech-related ECs and an internship.
I had the same Q re: admitted students day. I sent them an email and received a in response
.
$3000 for OOS P&G scholarship
Just to summarize the out-of-state purple and gold scholarships mentioned in here: $3-5k range per year, so net out-of-state tuition will run $38 - 43k per year (for those who don’t qualify for financial aid).
Some of this info is to help summarize, and assist students/parents in future years.
Is there a waitlist thread yet? S25 was waitlisted and UW is one of his top choices.

To those excellent students in the future who see this as a safety school, be warned. Hopefully things change, but until then - excellent grades, course rigor, and impressive activities are often not enough for this admissions department (despite the very reasonable acceptance rate).
