Hearing there was movement today from waitlist oos. Anyone hear good news? Are they close to full or do we think there will be a wave similar to other state schools recently?
Our DD came off the waiting list this morning and she has accepted. We are in Oregon. Good luck to all the others who are on the waiting list.
Hopefully there will be good news for more students this week!
For those who do get accepted off the waitlist and are willing to share, this information is always helpful:
in-state or out-of-state
first choice UW major
some basic academic stats
If a university wants 100-150 more students in an incoming class, they may send out a batch of say 500 acceptances off the waitlist. They understand the majority of students will have moved on to another school at this point in the process. Especially true for out-of-state students (less so for UW in-state of course).
As discussed previously, typically there would be many more out-of-state vs in-state accepted off waitlists. More details on that in previous posts.
Out of state
First choice major: pre public health
GPA 3.8 Unweighted, ACT - 34, Decent extracurriculars.
In state grandson still on wait list. Engineering, robotics club, IB courses. Hopeful by the end of the month heâll be accepted off wait list. Right now heâs committed to Portland State engineering school.
I heard 2 in state got off. 1 from my daughterâs school and 1 from redit.
Called AO yesterday and they said that they started getting off people and continued to so it. My daughter still waiting and hoping to hear back from them. Iâm afraid they already finished the first movement and we are not part of it.
I donât know how come we donât see more people if they did big number..
Good to hear we brought someone from Oregon to the good side! Smart kid no doubt!
My daughter is still on waitlist. Please let me know if you know anyone who get accepted with the same major and similar stats.
Biochemistry. Gpa 3.92 uw, sat 1500, 2 JV/varsity sports for 4 years, over 300 hours volunteering, orchestra, internship and more. But no amazing awards.
I mean anyone who got off from the waitlist.
In state
My daughter out of state in waitlist. Havenât heard anything yet. It seems some have got off the waitlist.
The only people that I have heard of getting in off the waitlist at this point were all in engineering.
My daughter (in state biochem) and a bunch of other waitlisted kids got an email saying that the waitlist decisions would come out around June 1, so that may be why we are not hearing much yet.
Hello everyone, is anyone waiting to hear back about the Neuroscience program at UW? Has anyone been taken off the waitlist for that major? We are OOS from California. How difficult is it to get into the Neuroscience major if you are on the waitlist?
I just called AO to find out when they plan to get off the waitlist. She said that she was not able to disclose that information and recommended to plan to go to the college we are accpted.
Her tone sounded really annoying.
That was really disrespectful to the person waiting for almost 2 months and tells us to go somewhere else before they even make a final decision. Are you really telling everyone to stop waiting here and go somewhere else? Are you saying that because there arenât many people getting off this year? Itâs sad to be on the waiting list, but itâs even sadder to hear she says that.
TBH, not really that disrespectful. More like prudent advice. I think most people recommend committing to another university as getting off the WL can be very unpredictable. The person answering the phones doesnât have the answers you want anywayâŠ
Iâve said it before, but unfortunately no one at the school cares much about you when youâre on the waitlist. Not a great feeling at all Iâm sure. Theyâd kinda prefer that most applicants would just move on, unfortunately. But until the list closes, you still have a chance. Only worth the pain if UW is your top priority!
Take the time to get comfortable with plan B though!
Iâd be annoyed, and a little hurt, too.
So the June 1st date may not hold ? For waitlist decisions to come ? Weâve committed to other colleges, UOW would have been better choice for us
From my small microcosm it sounds like UW has been quietly going to the waitlist over the last several weeks. No big waves. Interestingly friends from California are coming because they didnât get into UCs. However those same are now getting off UC waitlists and rethinking. So possibly more movement. But yes, best practice is to love the school that loves you back.
Do they notify if rejected from waitlist ? Just want to know what they had done historically
Followed this for several years now. Thereâs really no guarantee on timing at all. But yes, everyone will receive an email when the lists officially close. In-state and out-of-state can close separately. Remember all schools will always work to fill their out-of-state slots as a priority. Out-of-state students at all the competitive big state schools (UW, UCs, etc.) pay the bills!
Many UW kids commit to a UC as their back-up. But theyâd dump the UC in a heartbeat if accepted at UW. And vice versa of course. Universities know this well, and itâs all factored in.
