University of Washington Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

I agree. I think many schools, including UW, would likely consider zip codes (as an example) to help them reach their racial goals - as they’d generally understand the demographic make up of each area.

Grades and course rigor matter greatly, if you aren’t otherwise identified as one of their targeted groups!

I may start to lean to this Thursday, but still thinking next week if you don’t hear of any “presidential scholarships” announced at high schools this week (just a handful of them, maybe 10 individuals). Sometimes done at a school assembly.

That seems to be a logistical challenge they like to complete before the 75,000 decisions are released.

I certainly have no idea on the racial component, but I do think if you have a Camas High (as an example) which might have similar enrollment to Redmond High there is a point where a very qualified Redmond student may not be admitted compared to the Camas one out of sheer high school numbers applying. Then that qualified Redmond grad hears that someone else from Redmond was admitted by applying to French and says - capacity vs noncapacity. Which may be true - but I do wonder how much of that rumor is true overall or true via high schools where UW is seeing a lot of apps. Meaning would an OOS or applicant from Richland High better their chances by applying non-capacity or would they get in or not the exact same regardless of their major. Just a theory since you can put a second major on the app that isn’t direct to major or cap constrained.

In the holistic review section of this they mention considering, among other factors, “areas of academic interest”. I’ve read it discussed in other presentations as they look to ease the pressure on the constrained majors.

Also, they do extensive reporting on the racial make-up of incoming classes. It certainly appears to be an area of great emphasis in admissions.

Good luck to everyone. Sometimes things don’t go according to plan or get what you had hoped for. Either way, your child will be okay. Our daughter is graduating from UDub at the end of the year. 3 years ago, we didn’t think UDub would be her college choice. Her intentions were to stay in CA. Things didn’t go her way when it came to CA admissions and UDub ended up being an awesome experience. So whatever happens, go with the flow and stay positive. Our Son is graduating HS this year and didn’t apply to UDub. That being said, we root for all students who wish to attend UDub!

Anxiously waiting here as well- UW is daughter’s first choice. In-state, she’s doing Running Start and will have her AA by the time she graduates HS. She wants to study biochemistry. Already accepted to Oregon, WSU, and OSU, but UW is what she’s holding out for.

Fingers crossed…

Presidential scholarships started rolling out today in local high schools, so hopefully the rest will hear soon.

Still looking at this Thurs or next based on the prior years.

So many UW hopefuls have UC schools as their back-up and vice versa. The difference is that the in-state vs. out-of-state tuition is so significant in both situations. If, like many, you don’t qualify for financial aid - it’s $14k / year vs. $45k / year for the tuition alone, give or take. So $120k or so over 4 years. Yeah, these are very important days ahead!

My grandson is in Olympia an hour away, so I hope proximity to UW is a factor in considering engineering majors. I would think that the admissions office is very familiar with the academic courses and rigor of most in state high schools.

Any tell tale signs for admissions.

The post at the top of this thread gives all the details. Everything seems on schedule.

Based on past year’s trends, if decisions were to come this week on 3/6 we should have seen a “welcome huskies” post on IG last night; that didn’t happen, so, I’m more inclined towards expecting decisions next week now. How I wish it still comes this week.
