University of Washington Class of 2030 Official Thread

UW admissions threw a bit of a curveball with that Tuesday night release and earlier in the month than the past few years. So, Tuesday night 3/3/26 - for those reading this in the future. I have a feeling a lot of student may learn about this today as not everyone is very active on email.

Curious to hear from more in-state students.

For those willing to share, here’s a quick version of what’s most helpful to know for UW:

accepted / waitlisted / rejected

in-state or out-of-state

first major, requested

unweighted GPA

number of AP (or equivalent) classes taken

any additional information you believe would be helpful

I am fine with private universities doing whatever they want, but a public university running on taxpayer money should be required to justify a decision like this. That seems bonkers.

I made a longer post about it above, but I think “bonkers” is a better description.

These top state schools kinda just do whatever they want with in-state decisions.

Don’t want to take away from the celebration though. Congrats to all who got in!!

University of Texas - McCombs Business

She is officially at the compare and cut down numbers stage - and it looks like UW will be on the ‘outside’ of her first five list.

Congrats to those who were admitted, for the wait listers happy thoughts, and for those who did not receive positive news here there are schools out there that want you and that would be a great fit for you! Good luck to all

The official word on this (at least what we have heard at their admission presentations) is that they only consider test scores for a very small number of students that are on the borderline. Otherwise, the AOs do not even see the scores. But I guess it may make a difference in a few cases.

Congratulations and it looks like you likely know this, but take a DA over pre for business. Foster is increasingly difficult to get into without DA and a big reason many go elsewhere for business.

Thank you. I’m very proud of her putting herself out there to a number of very good schools.

Yes.
Her Kelley DA comes with a pretty big chunk of merit money. Her Gies DA does not - making the delta potentially around 60k difference between them. (Between us her mother and I are 5x Illini - but even so, that’s a big chunk of money to pay out for alumni spirit… I was really hoping she’d pull the UNC-CH B-School DA (I also have a degree from Carolina) because it’s not only a great school but also it would be about 1/2 the cost as an In-State student – but the wait list designation is about as hard a no as you can get without it being “Declined”.

She has the DA at Purdue Daniels (Her brother did his first year at Daniels before transferring to UNC-CH and her mother was a Purdue Undergrad in Krannert, and multiple of her first cousins are Purdue and Daniels grads…) but it’s probably going to take a fabulous “Purdue’s For me” student weekend for her to get it into her top three.

The University of Florida offer is the dicey one - Warrington is an internal application (like Georgia Terry and now UW Foster would be for her) but word is that the success rate of applicants is not super favorable - but she really likes their environmental science programs as a second major choice - so she’s trying to justify that second level of application risk to Warrington to keep it in her top three list. She seems un-phased by their 9 credit hour Florida university system summer course requirement as well. Plus they offered some merit, and already have a fairly low OOS tuition.

D26 accepted, OOS

Communication major

4.0 UW, 3.3 W GPA, 33 ACT (I think she submitted even though they don’t typically look at it)

9 APs, 2 CC classes

typical ECs and essay - 3-year varsity athlete/captain, national recognition as scholar/athlete, lots of volunteer hours, part-time jobs, student council, school TV anchor

Which area code? 206 or 425 by chance?

OOS (Texas) - Accepted, Biochemistry (DA) + $3000 P&G

Homeschooled, GPA: 3.97 UW, 4.71 W

Will graduate with 69 DE hours (54 at the time of application), with a 4.0 in DE classes. This translates roughly to 103 (81 at time of application) UW credit hours (UW takes max 90 credits)

Only one AP test (he always clarifies on his applications that AP classes are very expensive for homeschool students): 5 on Lang & Comp.

I know standardized tests don’t matter, but they appeared on his submitted common app to UW, so: 1500 and 34, NM commended

Over 800 volunteer hours @ Food Bank, 2xGold Presidential Service Award (qualified for 3rd, but Trump did away with them before he was awarded)

Board Member of Food Bank Student Org (300+ kids)

Research internship with Agro Genomics Lab @ TAMU (not pay to play)

Some other minor ECs like tennis (plays with team at CC where he does DE), and youth orchestra

He was wondering if he’d be assigned pre-science. He was not, and for those in the future wondering, he took the following as DE: Bio 1&2, Intro to Chem + Chem 1&2, Physics 1&2, Calc 1&2. I don’t know what qualifies someone as DA vs. pre-science, but if it’s prerequisites, it seems he fulfilled them.

Other acceptances:

UT Austin (Biochem DA)

TAMU

University of Toronto

University of Edinburgh

University of St. Andrews

Declined:

Cambridge

Imperial College of London

Still waiting:

University College London

UW has always been his #1, even over Cambridge (although he did seem disappointed by their response, but this was well before we heard from UW).

It’s on the same purple acceptance banner.

Does anyone get a 10k P&G scholarship lol? The highest I’ve heard of is 5.4k and the average around 3k

Anyone else willing to share decisions and stats? Any rejections can be the most difficult to post, but can also be helpful.

This is the dream school for so many in-state students. Those who grew up “bleeding purple and gold”. If you didn’t get good news, I sure hope you’re hanging in there! Don’t give up quite yet. Worth a shot on the waitlist, and take a swing at an appeal if you think you have a good case. Again best of luck!!

I guess it’s just a really competitive major

It stings.

Just wanted you to know I feel your pain. My Daughter is graduating from UDub this year. CA kid who applied to Cal, UCLA, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, San Diego St, Cal Poly Slo. Yes, they are 9 of the best public colleges in CA. Rejected to 5 right off the bat and waitlisted to 4. Ended up being rejected to all 9. Accepted into UDub not thinking it would be the college of choice. She knew it was a good school, but wanted to really stay in CA all said and done. 4 years later she feels like it was an awesome unexpected path. Whatever decision you end up making…embrace it and have fun! All will work out if you keep a positive mindset  Congrats on a successful high school career. My daughter took a ton of AP classes, scored 3 or 4 on 6 AP test, travel/high school softball player, founder of an environmental club, 4.6 weighted GPA.
