Same situation here. Son got admitted in pre Sciences OOS . We are bit hesitant as well because of weather. We are ready to commit for UW as that’s the best option so far. He is WL in UCSD.
How difficult is it to get Biology major if you are admitted as Pre sciences? I am not sure if its worth paying the OOS cost, for my kid to be stressed out about getting the desired major for the first couple of years, and might end up actually not getting the major they want.
This still seems like the most active UW chat, so maybe post here if you learn of reliable waitlist responses. Stats and first major always helpful to include in responses when possible.
Just a reminder that the in-state and out-of-state waitlists are separate lists, and like with most competitive state schools, it’s typically much easier to get off the waitlist for out-of-state students.
DD OOS got off the waitlist today for Pre-sciences. She applied for Neuroscience originally. Not sure what the odds are of getting admitted to the major.
Any in-state students received waitlist replies?
My in state D26 received and accepted the merit based UW Honors Scholar Undegrad award through the Interdisciplinary Honors Program via email yesterday, covers full tuition waiver for the 2026-2027 school year. Still in a bit of shock day after.
We don’t know anyone personally who has gotten of the waitlist in state. I would love to see the numbers of in state versus out of state that are taken off the waitlist historically. I have not been able to find that info though.
University of Washington Waitlist is OUT! I didn’t get in though…they gave me admission to UW Tacoma instead, even though I never applied. I applied in state undergrad for Computer Science.
It’s mostly out of state students that get off the waitlists in significant numbers at the big competitive state universities. They don’t have much incentive to advertise this, but of course schools should be more transparent. I’ve written about the reasons in detail before, but essentially it’s pretty easy for universities to estimate the in-state yield at the flagships and much more challenging to estimate out of state yields. And out of state students pay the bills, so schools will always make sure this number is where they want it to be.
Same, offer the Tacoma campus for business major, OOS. Daughter won’t go though.
