I have not conducted a detailed analysis of the information submitted by all the kind folks here, but I agree that it seems that those applying to business and finance hit a rough patch of road. That is the (stalled) boat we’re in now.
I tried to look at the CC reported stats by major, but about a 1/3 didn’t report a major and I really didn’t see any obvious pattern by major for grades or test scores. It does seem that majors like business, nursing, engineering, computer science are simply more competitive at most colleges due to their popularity.
Yep. My son applied for business.
Dear Wisconsin Admissions Office:
The Wisconsin men’s basketball just lost their fourth straight game since deferring our kiddos. This last one was a 22 point loss in a game that they were favored to win by three.
Admittedly, we don’t know which student’s deferral placed this jinx upon your team. So the safest solution is to admit all the students on CC who were deferred.
The universe is out of alignment and you have the power to fix it.
Did anyone reach out to their local admissions rep at all during the process of applying?
So did mine. Did he submit tests?
Did you get an email confirmation that it all went through, or you just see it in the portal?
She logged out and then logged back in, and then it showed in portal
Where else did your kids get in or get deferred? Curious if this is a top choice or if other ones are similar!
D also deferred at Michigan. Even if she miraculously pulls that off I think wisconsin would be top choice.
Ditto my son. Deferred at Wisconsin and Michigan, but even if he got into both, still prefers Wisconsin.
Was it for University of Michigan or Michigan state ?
My son was deferred at Wisconsin. He was admitted at Michigan and North Carolina.
He is still waiting to hear whether he has been accepted to the business school at Michigan (he also applied to the business program at Wisconsin). He is not telling about what his first choice is at this point, but he was terribly disappointed to be deferred at Wisconsin.
University of Michigan
P.S. to the Wisconsin Admissions Office:
The Wisconsin football team just lost a key assistant coach to Michigan, their defensive line coach. Although not reported in the media, he has told his inner circle that he is leaving because he is troubled by the deferral decisions made last month.
The problem is spreading. You really should admit all the students on CC who were deferred. Quickly, before things get worse.
that’s insane- but congrats! Great options. Michigan is amazing and UNC too. Maybe Wisconsin assumes he won’t go (which I wouldn’t blame him, with those 2 options unless you are in state)
Nevermind - they were told not to!
What does he like more about Wisconsin? Just curious since we have visited Wisconsin but not Michigan yet.
We visited both and he REALLY liked both universities. Wisconsin is his #1 choice and Michigan is #2. Here’s a rough breakdown of his thoughts/impressions:
- While Michigan is definitely the higher ranked engineering program, Wisconsin seemed like a more relaxed campus culture. Michigan seemed more cutthroat
- Engineering is part of the main campus at Wisconsin, whereas at Michigan, it’s a couple of miles away from central campus (North Campus).
- He rows crew and while injuries have prevented him from posting times strong enough to be a recruited athlete, he plans to walk-on. He can do that at both, but the UW boat house is amazing and it’s only a few hundred yards from many residence halls and the engineering complex. The admissions people at Michigan didn’t even know they had a boat house and seemed perplexed when I asked them about crew (the boat house is a 20 minute drive outside of Ann Arbor).
- He just liked Madison better than Ann Arbor and he loves the setting between the lakes
