University of Wisconsin -Madison vs Ohio State vs UIUC vs Clemson University for Mech Engineering

Which school would the best choice for Mechanical Engineering and Business/dual degree? Most opportunities when graduating? Most prestige? Such a tough decision; all great schools.

Is money a factor? Are you instate for any of these schools?

Are you sure you can DO a dual degree in Business and Engineering? You might not be able to do this and graduate in four years. Both are rigourous courses of study with few electives.

OOS. Not sure about dual degree. University of Mich you can get a dual degree in 5 yrs.

Who will be paying for all the OOS costs? What are your parents saying??? If they won’t pay, then this Q is moot.

What is your home state?

Can you pay the OOS cost to attend UMich for five years?

Can you pay the OOS costs to attend any of these OOS public universities?

yes, we are prepared to pay the OOS tuition.

What do you plan to do? Do you plan to be an engineer who wants to be on management or own your own company? Or are you uncertain whether you want to enter engineering…or business.

If you want to be an engineer and plan to be in management in engineering, I would strongly suggest you comolete your engineering degree, get engineering experience…and then pursue a MBA at a later date.

If you have another reason for this dual degree…what is it?

Since cost is not an issue, just pick the school you like, the best (are you a senior waiting for admissions…or are you a junior trying to figure out where to apply?

Accepted at all the above. List narrowed down.

Also…do you have two kids applying to colleges this year. On one thread you say your S was Accepted to Clemson in January. On another, you say your D was deferred from Michigan.

Just curious.

I do have one child who will be attending one of these colleges in the fall.

these are all fine Midwest flagship universities. The student needs to decide what to do. The student is going to college. Let him or her decide.

what that means is a trip during spring break to all 4 schools from ca-#1 school haven’t heard from (mich)

Easy to do Wisconsin, Illinois, and OSU in one week trip…but Clemson is a trek from there.

yes, we know. A lot $$ and time. Actually doing UIUC, WIsconsin and Ohio and then back home. then the next week Clemson. All contingent on Michigan, the #1 choice.

@calspeed Are you the parent? And you have 2 kids going to college next year? both to OOS publics? Yikes!

Are you driving to do the midwest schools…and then flying to do Clemson ?

UMich is the fave of one of your kids, what is the other child’s fave school?

Yes, I am the parent of 1 child going to college from CA. They are flying to all the schools and then flying home for 7 days and then flying to clemson for 3. If I had to guess the top 2 besides UMich would be Wisconsin and Clemson but UMIch is #1!!! Want great college experience all around. Educationally and socially.

@calspeed‌
Are you not sure if you have a son or a daughter?

?

Be aware that Michigan is very stingy with transfer credit, so if the student has taken college course work while in high school, it may not be accepted for transfer credit.

Calspeed, really, no need to be cagey. But on one thread, you stated that your S got accepted to Clemson in January. And on another you stated that your D was deferred at UMich and hoped to gain acceptance.

Just wondering if you had two kids…and if just one whether this was a daughter or a son. Certainly, you don’t have to say…just say “I’d rather not tell.”
