university

hi
i’am a Canadian citizen whose studying in an American curriculum high-school in KSA, dam really confused about what admission requirements I should follow ad wether my level is good for Toronto university, my gpa is around 92 and my sat score is 12300

What is KSA?

As a Canadian citizen, you would pay the price for a Canadian citizen at any university in Canada. This is going to be a very good deal compared to US schools unless you somehow qualify for a really great scholarship somewhere in the US.

With an average grade of 92 and a 1230 SAT (assuming you put an extra 0 at the end), then I am not sure whether you will get into Toronto, but you should be close one way or the other. It might depend upon your intended major. I would apply to a few other schools in Canada also. There are quite a few (probably at least 20 or 30) that might be reasonable given your stats. Feel free to ask here if you want other suggestions.

What is your intended major? Do you want a very large and academically very demanding university such as Toronto?

How does your GPA compare with others in your high school? Are you a Junior?

KSA is the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. yes, i’am a junior, my school is really competitive and is ranked first place in the country thats why my Gpa is not that helpful
and what is a good score(on the SAT ) and Gpa I should get to be qualified enough for Toronto university? do they consider grade 9 grades?

If your school is on the American curriculum you will be evaluated as an American applicant.

You really need to contact the University of Toronto admissions. Also, check UT website.

Not certain, but I believe that your courses will have to satisfy the same standards as those for Canadian students.

Canadian schools tend to put more emphasis on grades GPA than on standardized test scores.

Good news is that if admitted, you get Canadian tuition rates !

U of T has a page on their site for students applying from international schools.

“do they consider grade 9 grades”

No. Grade 9 will not matter for universities in Canada.

I know a student who like you was a Canadian citizen studying outside of Canada with a US curriculum, who was accepted a few years ago to McGill with an average grade between 94 and 95 (almost all A’s, two 89’s over 4 years but one of these was in grade 9), and an SAT score of 1410. Toronto is larger than McGill which might (?) make it marginally easier to get into, and I suspect this student had slightly higher stats than was strictly needed. However, some majors such as CS and engineering are harder to get into than what she was applying to. I am not sufficiently familiar with the cutoffs at Canadian schools to be quite sure whether you are going to get into Toronto, but to me it looks like it is worth applying if you want to go there.

Considering the price of US schools, and my limited knowledge of Saudi schools, I am thinking that you should apply to Toronto but also apply to several other Canadian schools that would be easier to get into. You might want to check out the Maclean’s university listings to get some ideas of other schools to consider. Your stats should be pretty safe at some very good schools such as Concordia, Dalhousie, Simon Fraser, or U.Victoria. There are quite a few others that are worth considering.

U of T’s SAT cutoffs are 600 in each section. However, meeting that cutoff is not a guarantee of admission. Engineering, business, CS will definitely have higher cutoffs.
