I’ve been giving away masks that have kitties and puppies on them. The children receiving them and their parents seem quite delighted.
My nieces and nephew have no problem “masking up.” They are 3, 4 and 7. They don’t touch their face nor masks and just accept it’s something they need to do to go outdoors, like putting on a hat or sunscreen.
As long as the mask is adjusted so it fits properly, the kids I’ve seen wear them just fine (better than some adults, honestly).
Adults with dementia may face more difficulty with masks and everything else. They especially seem to have an awful tone with social isolation due to distancing.
I had a staff meeting this week at work. There were only 4 of us present. We sat at a very large conference table in a large open room (not closed off)
I was the only one that kept my mask on the whole time (probably about 45 minutes). The other three either were messing with theirs, pushing it under their nose, taking it off for a couple minutes here and there (for talking). It was annoying me! Get a mask that fits and keep it on! I can hear you just fine with it on!
JoAnn’s always has the team fabric for the local teams, usually a few of the popular NFL or MLB teams, and sometimes college teams. Nope. They have some local teams, the awful U of Nebraska which I would NEVER buy, and that’s it. They don’t even have a lot online.
You can buy school masks from the college bookstores, but I can’t find the fabric.
Sacramento, CA here and have been wear mask, safety glasses, and latex gloves with a baseball cap on whenever I go grocery shopping (1x/2weeks and then do delivery) since March. 1st week of March was my last biz trip travel and I wore safety glasses and an N95 mask on the flight. It’s not a big deal for us and it gets to be up to 100oF now.
I went to the San Diego Zoo today. Masks required, as far as I could tell 100% compliance. Kids had very cute masks, and the zoo sold some cute ones. We had a fun day and I felt very safe.
Here’s something from CDC. Sounds like unless you have symtptoms don’t wear?! It says updated on 6/21.
“CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19,” the CDC says. “Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others.”
Regarding little kids, I think sometimes we adults overthink this. If we present wearing face masks as a pretty typical “no big deal” thing, then kids will follow suit. Parents and adults can just matter of factly say, “okay we are going in the store, time to put on our face masks” and it becomes another automatic habit like holding Mom’s hand, or putting on a seat belt or washing hands after using the bathroom. It’s just what you do, IF it is presented that way. Remember these little guys don’t have 50 years experience in NOT wearing a mask, so if mom says to wear one, for many kids, that is just what you do. (Kids with special needs, etc might be a different story of course)
I don’t know what your link is, @Iglooo , but they definitely aren’t saying that now, and I believe have been advocating masks for quite a while (as long as politicians don’t interfere):
Getting young kids to wear masks and and wearing them hygienically are two entirely different things. Imagine being a K, 1st, or 2nd grade teacher at the peak of allergy season with all those snotty little faces. Just eeew. Of course sneezing is a common symptom of allergies. Double eeew.
Wearing masks doesn’t create a perfect scenario all the time for anyone. Kids or adults. I think “we” will have to be more conscious about staying home when we have a cold for instance. In the past that snotty nosed kid might have gone to school - maybe now they need to stay home for a couple of days till the runnies pass.
One school district around here is saying masks for kids 3rd -grade and up. K-2, face shields.
I went to a HUGE restaurant for my first inside meal today. I wanted to feel somewhat “normal”
I sat at a table far, far away from anybody. Ordered my chicken Cobb salad. Then then the disaster started. Two guys were then seated at a table, prob 12 feet from me. Within 5 minutes 2 more guys and a girl showed up, all wearing masks until they sat down. So 5 people at a table, obviously not family or SIP people all just yucking it up at a table. I left my $12 Cobb Salad and said no way. What the heck? You think your mask is ok just until you get to a table? Then it’s okay to spread germs? So much for my try to go to a restaurant.
