What do you do when there are tons of seemingly unqualified kids at your school applying to top schools? It seems to me that many of these kids at my school have unseemingly high expectations. Should I tell them not to expect much so that way they’re not crushed when they are rejected? Maybe I’ve just been on CC too long, where many highly qualified applicants post their stats. Maybe my standards have just gotten unreasonably high. There’s this girl in my grade with a 3.4 GPA and a 1840 SAT score who is applying to Harvard, MIT, Duke, and Dartmouth. I was trying so hard not to laugh when she told me where she is applying.

I don’t need to deal with such situations because I go to a very competitive school. Of course, there are unqualified kids there too; but I mostly only interact with highly competent people that is in my academic caliber; don’t judge, it’s just circumstantial. I have no business talking to other people. :D

Well, it’s their business where they apply. Worry about yourself. Does seem like a shame to waste the $200-$300, unless there are fee waivers or extraordinary circumstances involved.

Oh I always get a knot in my stomach when I hear that. Those people will be devastated when their dreams are crushed… hopefully they have a reasonable safety.

Nowadays a lot of people are asking me “Oh, where have u been accepted too?” (I applied to mid-high lvl schools) I hate answering that question because I fear that people around me will judge me as a stuck up person. And then after I list my acceptances the next question is always “Oh, why didn’t u apply to any Ivy Leagues?” (I’m a stereotypical looking asian) Then I’m like “F-off! Just because I’m asian doesn’t mean I have a 4.0 GPA. I don’t see you asking that white guy the same question.” I’ve been asked that so many freaking times. Sooo annoying.

Answer: “Well, for starters, there’s only one…”

People at my school ask me if I applied to Ivy League schools, and I’m Gael-Mheirice

Wow… you know what I mean by Ivy LeagueSSSSS. Stop being so literal! >_>

Yeah… I’m totally applying for the Ivy Leagues because I entirely want to go to an athletic conference of 8 schools.

If it’s someone i’m friends with (most of whom are great ppl all around & academically competitive), I sincerely hope their dreams come true

otherwise, if it’s someone i don’t care about, usually idiots who get 3.2’s and talk big like they already have a likely letter lined up going to notre dame, georgetown, stanford, penn state while being condescending to, say southern illinois, i don’t say anything mean and secretly hope they go to a community college (which this senior yr, has happened quite a lot so far)

All limits are self imposed.

Probably the best advice on here. Who cares? They’ll go off to the place they were meant to be in the end.
