Hi everyone,

I’m currently a 4th year student at the University of Manitoba. My major is Actuarial Science and I will be graduating by next year.

I’m actually applying for some Direct-Entry Ph.D in Actuarial Science program.
- University of Toronto
- University of Western Ontario

Both schools have their actuarial science graduate programs under Department of Statistics.

UoT mentions a minimum of A- for Direct-Entry Admission, for UWO it requires an average of 90%.

My GPA is 4.21/4.5 for the last two years of study.

(At UoM A+ is 4.5 and A is 4.0 so I got an average grade between A and A+ but I know the grading scales for different schools are different like GPA at my school could be converted to a lower grade at UoT something like that…)

I also have research experience; I worked as an actuarial research assistant with one of my actuarial professors. I have also done an actuarial internship with an international reinsurance company.

I know my GPA is good for master program admission. But how about a Direct-Entry PhD??? What are my chances to get the admission??? I really don’t want to waste one more year to study master first. I am sure that I have to do a Ph.D. I am so nervous cuz these are the only two grad schools I’m applying to…

Thanks!!!
