Update - Eve Carson Case

I wanted to link everyone to a set of new photos of the person of interest who was driving her vehicle. These are taken in a convenience store (ironically, one I recognize) near the campus. Also her cell phone was found in the vicinity. Progress is being made, but these photos need to be circulated.

One would hope that with these photos, that they should be able to zero in on this guy pretty fast…

Two words–death penalty.

Agreed, barrons. ^

The idea that this piece of trash might be able to live his life out in prison, with 3 square meals a day, is not even worth contemplating.

Barrons, I have to agree. I thought I had recently solidified my view against the death penalty (I think b/c I’m decidedly “pro-life” and capital punishment seems antithetical to that), but I can’t help but feel that sometimes it’s warranted. If I were the parents in this case, I’d definitely want him d-e-a-d.

In any case, our prisons are way too cushy. They oughta be growing their own food, no t.v., etc.

Sorry to get off-topic a bit.
Sure hope they get this guy & throw the book at 'im!

Lots of prayers going out for the families of both girls lost this week.
It’s tragic beyond words.

There was a picture of her mom at the funeral, utterly devastating to look at it, an agony to think of how the family feels. But the death penalty will not “unring the bell”. The murderer(s) need to be off the streets, other children need to be safe. They did not, could not understand the wrath they have rained upon themselves over this. It is just a matter of time, and the reward will help.

Strongly disagree, but let’s not get into it.
Let’s circulate those photos.

Agree or not, death penalty is what it will be, and anyone with a grain of sense can see that. He either committed the murder for some perverted self affirmation, or because he didn’t want the inconvenience of having someone who could identify him.

That is also why it will possibly be tougher than it ought to be to get a lead on who this jerk is…the one who turns him in will know what is waiting for him.

We need someone with the moral sense that the unabomber’s brother had.

The photos are being circulated…they’ve been on CNN throughout the day…and the local NC news channel has been showing it about every 10 minutes, it seems. Dadx, I’m afraid you might be right about people turning this guy in…but, hopefully there’s at least one person out there who will do the right thing…

Agree with kelowna. I hate to see this thread go the way of the Duke student newspaper where the topic of a senseless, tragic murder veered off into debate over a peripheral issue (and in the case of the Duke paper, unseemly behavior of those I presume NOT to be students or faculty).

Just keep bumping this thread and circulating those photos as kelowna says.

The Daily Tarheel’s photos seem more clear for some reason:

[New photos released in Carson investigation - City](http://media.www.dailytarheel.com/media/storage/paper885/news/2008/03/07/City/New-Photos.Released.In.Carson.Investigation-3261758.shtml)

I pray this attention somehow helps.

Btw…I’m concerned the reward is not enough to entice the right person to speak. This was mentioned to me by another poster and confirmed by relatives who are agents with a federal branch of law enforcement …there is a chokepoint on the reward amount at which you attract too much misleading information. But in this case, as was pointed out above, there needs to be strong incentive because if these killers are affiliated with a gang, the repercussions to a good samaritan may be great.

Yes, or one who will be motivated by the $25K reward… Let’s hope that person comes forward soon.

While, sadly, the “death penalty will not unring the bell,” no reason or purpose will be served for this trash to live out his sorry life in a cushy prison. The sooner he’s off this earth, the better for us all.

After reading the DTH just now, I was glad to see that the FBI (as well as the SBI) are actively involved now, too. I cannot imagine there are too many rocks this trash can hide under now; his world will be getting smaller by the minute.

I hope they stay on top of this and keep pushing. After 9/11, my thought was that “at least Osama Bin Laden would not get to grow old in his flower garden”, but so far he has eluded us. It is not impossible for folks to disappear even in this country, unlikely, but it has been done. All the rest of the daughters and the sons must be safe from this slimebucket scumbag.

Agreed, lorelei. I’m guessing that if he would so easily kill for what amounts to about $200, at most, from an ATM machine, that somebody who knows where he’s hiding will surely turn him in for the lure of $25K. My guess/hope is that his own mother (if he ever had one) will turn him in for that, if nothing else. I doubt they know the meaning of the word moral.

circulating…

Hoping every time this thread gets bumped that there’s some news …

I want them to get this guy … soon.

No more news, except now the WRAL website has announced where her cell phone was found, which is a shopping center (Eastgate) in Chapel Hill about a mile and a half from where her body was found. I’m not sure why they’re releasing that information now, but they must think it will help.

Also of interest. Her laptop was found in her office on campus. So apparently she did make it from her cottage to the student gov’t offices. The should be able to create a good timeline with this laptop, info from id card used to enter the building and these time/date stamped photos at the ATM and convenience store.

ldmom

There is also the chance that she might not have taken her laptop home when she left her office for the day…it’s hard to imagine any of my son’s friend’s without their laptop on or around them 24/7 but…hopefully this isn’t the case so that some time line CAN be established…

I am really struggling with the fact that there is so little news but trying to keep my hopes up by using the Auburn case as a frame of reference;they also said very little about their progress until Saturday morning when they announced that they had captured that monster. I pray to God that this is what is happening here.

Everyone please keep Eve’s family and friends in your prayers…those who were very close to her, especially her Morehead classmates, members of Team Friendship and others are REALLY struggling in trying to deal with this…thank you

EaDad, although I never had the pleasure to know Eve Carson or Lauren Burk, I have not stopped thinking about these promising and wonderful young women and their loved ones. These tragedies are of the worst kind I can imagine. I am so sorry for all family and friends who are trying to cope.
