Updates on the Princess of Wales

Like they wouldn’t make two young boys walk behind their mother’s casket when they didn’t want to?

The oldest is 9. The youngest at Diana’s funeral was 12, so apples and oranges, not even considering that funeral tradition and conspiracy aren’t remotely equivalent.

And the oldest at Diana’s funeral is the father of the 9 year old, so I can’t see him roping his kids into this

Hopefully they would have learned from that.

Agree that the photo mess could be put to rest by issuing an unaltered version of the picture. Wonder if there was something specifically being edited out (like an IV pole) that they don’t want to be seen by the public.

In any event, I hope Kate recovers and I hope the family is happy and stable – but I can’t help but question their common sense in dealing with the public in difficult circumstances. I imagine the late Queen must be rolling over in her grave.

From this latest debacle, it doesn’t seem like they’ve learned much from past mistakes.

Guessing there isn’t an original photo to release.

You know, one of the old stand by phrases “honestly is the best policy” could be put into play here. That doesn’t have to mean “spill your private guts” (no pun intended, abdominal surgery).

I picture is not necessary - especially a posed one. Just some honest facts “she needs more time to recover” or the nature of her surgery or SOMETHING that comes from someone trustful. Would have been good if this had happened at intervals up to now. Just a few honest tidbits.

Would that be enough to appease everyone? No. Some will always want speculation, want more info. But at this point even many of the royal naysayers or non-followers are watching .

This article expresses many of the thoughts I’ve had concerning the royal family.

Has anyone seen the analysis video floating around that suggests the photo of Kate and the kids was from November 2023 with some photoshop work done to the outfits to make it look new? It’s pretty convincing when they hold up the photos of them in those outfits from that month side by side and also explains the specific photoshop errors that have been found (and it’s just not believable that Kate would be photoshopping the parts of the photo where the errors have been spotted…we’re not talking about playing with lighting or applying some filters). At any rate, it’s truly bizarre if they went to such lengths to fake an entire photo to release when they had already said she would be recovering until Easter. There was really no need to say anything further, so it’s puzzling to see a photo released and then to create a story about the photoshopping that is so questionable.

This article included the part of the larger story that has bothered me for some time…collusion between wealthy people and the press. In my opinion access journalism has been the source of a lot of our collective division.

Instead of going on the record, royal press offices will give briefings and in some situations provide information to a core group of royal reporters — with the caveat that these reporters won’t say that the information came from an official spokesperson. Phrases like “this reporter understands” or “this news outlet can confirm” are very common in stories about the royal family.

From the NY Times article, I was surprised and saddened to read this:

On Reddit, there is a group of more than 60,000 people singularly dedicated to hatred of Meghan.

Then again, I remain surprised that the Harry & Meghan thread still seems quite active. I haven’t been following along as it was upsetting to read some of the comments being made, so this next comment is one that is truly ignorant of what is going on there, but I suspect that not all the comments in there are positive.

The extent of me following the royals is pretty much following this thread here on CC. I wish all members of the royal family the best, whether they are active or inactive. The opinion piece in the NY Times definitely underlines the difference in treatment between Kate & Meghan, but I think all of this is an example of poor treatment of people, particularly women. I will note that the vast majority of the criticism is going toward the wives, and not the husbands (apart from the release of Harry’s book, which still had a lot of criticism of his wife).

Also, as the husband of a poster upthread indicated, I in no way read the apology from Princess Kate to be an admittance of editing.

Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.

The wording might be an attempt to make people think that the logical conclusion was that Kate did the editing, but in no way does this statement say that.

Harry and Meghan move half a world away and make no comment on the current Kate issues and yet somehow they are dragged into this mess. Always. It’s so predictable.

Will has some major challenges ahead of him, many of his own making. It will be fascinating to see if the monarchy survives him. He and Charles wanted to make the royal family smaller but I don’t think they thought through what that would really mean. Charles on cancer treatment, Camilla taking a vacation, Kate recovering from surgery or whatever is going on with her, Harry and Meghan in California. And Will, who is known to have anger management issues, left to represent.

Uhhh…but its not actually proof despite the for profit magazine article’s title. What he posted on twitter (the article you posted doesn’t even include the ‘proof’) is a separate screenshot and image, there is zero assurance that the screenshot is actually of the image itself, and if they are the screenshot is not even the meta data file that would serve as proof of not being edited. He didn’t actually send the AP the RAW image file from the camera that captured the image, which is what they are requesting of the palace.

I actually searched for this yesterday, knew it had to be out there, popped up on my Facebook feed today.

Camilla took a break for a few days, she has been back at work for awhile now.
I think the monarchy has a solid group of hard workers - Princess Anne and her husband, Sophie and Edward and even the Queen’s first cousins still appear at events. I think Zara would be a fantastic addition to Royal events.

She was gone for a week and back on Monday. And I get that she “always takes a vacation this time of year” but it seemed quite untimely to me. It’s not the appearing at events part that is at issue, sure these folks who are way down the line of succession can show up for things. But they are way down the list.

Exactly…seems like a lot of journalists didn’t understand that either.

Well numbers 3, 4 and 5 on the succession list are under 10 years of age, so I think we can give them a pass.
King Charles was also doing an event today, I am glad to see him up and about.
I did think Camilla’s time off in the midst of this was odd timing, although at age 76, it would be really tiring doing events day after day.
But the ones I mentioned are working royals and getting paid as such - I think the ones we see most often (Princess Anne, Edward and Sophie) seem to be hard workers and are a great PR for the Crown.
