UPenn Class of 2028 Official Thread

This is the official discussion thread for University of Pennsylvania Class of 2028 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.

Do we know how many students were accepted last year in RD?

Last year for the Class of 2027, there were a total of 3,549 applicants accepted, of whom 1,210 were accepted in the ED round, leaving 2,339 who were accepted in the RD round (see pages 8 and 13):

Thank you, this is what I was looking for.

Actually, those numbers were for the Class of 2026, but the acceptance numbers for the Class of 2027 were similar, albeit from a larger number of applicants:

Sorry for the confusion.

S24 submitted yesterday. This is not particularly relevant, since I am not the one applying, but I really love Penn’s College of Arts and Sciences. They have so many very strong departments, so many cool interdisciplinary majors and minors . . . it is just, to me, such an exciting school from an academic perspective.

My freshman agrees—so many options to explore! Good luck to your son for RD— It’s a long wait until all of the answers are in, but I am sure he will have some great options!

Agreed. Penn is an exciting academic community that is both challenging and rewarding. My CAS kid had some incredible professors and mentors. Her younger sibling is in SEAS but has found the same supportive community. It’s a special place. Best of luck to your son.

Does anyone know if Penn offers interviews for RD applicants. Is that just based on availability in the local area or do they try and interview every applicant. I doubt they try and interview every applicant but I heard that Harvard tries to fit in every applicant for an interview. For contect, we are in a large urban area where there are lots of alumni.

They try to interview every applicant for RD. Dual-degree applicants get interviewed by alums from that program, over zoom from anywhere (D23 ‘s interviewer was multiple time zones away), and if possible they align single degree applicants with alums from that undergraduate school but that does not seem to be as strict a guideline as it is for duals, as kids who got in from our area seemed to not all line up with program. Most did though. It is area-based but with virtual interviews it can be assigned from any region now.

S24 is also very excited about Penn. Applied to LSM dual degree and Arts & Sciences as a back-up. He’d be thrilled with either. Interview next week with an LSM alum over zoom.

When did you get interview info? Applied a week ago and haven’t heard. It’s the only one I’m still waiting on!

I’m the parent so not certain, mid to late last week I think. It’s still very early and nothing to be concerned about. I do not know, but perhaps some priority with dual degree applications as if not accepted the application is pushed to the school.

He’s waiting on 3 from other schools that try to interview all. Sounds like you’re in good shape and it’ll come soon.
