They are trying to see, if its possible to use that to try and see if they are assigned a PENNkey.

People have tried that, no clue if tehre was success.
It might work, too small of a sample size because statistically it would only work for 7% of us XD
This PennKey stuff and speculation regarding it comes up every year at this time. They are making the system updates to support the PennKey verification process for accepted students who enroll. Itās part of the IT implementation leading up to the data āgo-liveā for admissions decisions. Seeing the PennKey link on your portal means nothing at this point. Access will be granted only after acceptances are released and enrollment is confirmed.

Is it really important? It is related to acceptance in Previous years?
Just look at the Class of ā27 thread from last year, or the Class of ā26 thread from the year prior. The answer is dates change in the portal, especially when documents are received by Financial Aid. It means nothing in terms of admissions outcomes.
All will be known shortly. The process is out of your hands. There is no secret code or trick that is going to give you a peek ahead of the release time. Go for a walk, hang with friends, focus on your current school work and activities. This portal anxiety is not healthy.

my dates just changed to yesterdays date (3/25/24) when I checked just now. not sure how to interpret this (i submitted all docs a loooong time ago back in november in idoc, a few of them in early januaray and the dates used to be early febuary)

Well, for intl it is. Schools are need aware for intls. So they wanna look at your fin status before making decision.

Again, for intls it should (imho).
Even if your theory is correct, it indicates nothing about what was decided using that info, so the portal astrology is still pointless for predicting outcomes.
