I heard about an int’l student who got off the WL but he is full pay. My prediction is they are prioritizing full-pay students now. Let’s hope aid-based students receive their acceptance next week, fingers crossed!
Might be a bad sign, Penn allegedly favors full-pay students or those who applied for aid. Or, just means the second wave will include aid-based students bc they are ensuring some more full-pays commit.
Someone just got off the waitlist for wharton
Thats super interesting, wharton usually has the highest yield. I’m most curious abt CAS, Penn usually takes the most from CAS but not hearing much activity (the first wave was super small).
This year’s waitlist is super unusual… usually they admit by schools right? But this first wave seems to be a mix of all the schools, and a small wave too.
same question here, was expecting a lot more to get off for cas but seems like very few have gotten off so far. also seems like everyone that got off for cas are full pay as of now. has anyone tried contacting admissions already and heard of any news?
Seems like their more concerned abt finances this year (prob cuz of the donor scandals) so they might be more focused on full-pays for that reason. Honestly after realizing this, I’m not too worried. They may just start on actual yield after they have accomplished their financial goals (so basically reserving a number of spots from all the schools for full-pays, then once that’s secured they’ll go onto normal practices and fill the rest of the spots based on institutional needs just like every other school does.).
Your point of view is actually very interesting and can be the right one. One thing I am sure off admission process at these schools can be really unpredictable. So, let us hope in the end things will work out and we get off the WL!
Anyone planning on calling penn admissions? Odd that they haven’t sent any communication out.
I called - they are reviewing applications and will continue to release results on a rolling out basis. Did not offer any more specifics.
ok, thanks. Knowing it’s rolling is super important.
Has anyone heard anything else? All the penn waitlist threads are super dead… wondering if this means no more activity so far
Haven’t heard much either. I’m curious how much penn is planning to admit off the waitlist. someone apparently called harvard for the waitlist yday and they said to expect few off since harvard had a high yield rate this year. has anyone heard from admissions about this?
Yeah this is unusual esp bc of this year being especially good for waitlists on top of the fact that they take more than 100 in a regular year… it doesn’t sound like anywhere near a hundred got off or we’d hear more news.
yeah so many people were speculating there would be huge waitlist movements but i have yet to see any. seems like the only ivy to have a “wave” is cornell so far, all the others have been “rolling” or select few on random days (?)
There is no good data on waitlist movement prior to the schools publishing that data themselves months later in their common data sets. Other signs of waitlist activity are through anecdotes shared on message boards like this one or Reddit, which are not effective for reaching statistically valid conclusions.
Most of the speculation about more waitlist movement for the current cycle is based on the disruptions and uncertainties caused by the FAFSA mess. Yet, CSS schools like Penn have their own means of issuing financial aid packages, so even if there is a FAFSA effect, if should be mitigated at Penn.
has anyone received any update today? ifs been a week since the first few acceptances had been sent
if there’s gonna be an update it’ll come at like 7 or 8 pm
has anyone received anything?
Nothing yet I’m so anxious.
