UPenn ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

@ys1213 a congratulations video is at the top of the page if u are accepted

@xindisun99 and if I’m rejected, nothing appears but only the letter itself, right?

@ys1213 I would believe so, not 100% sure

@ariley524 and @lovergirlparty It’s exciting to find others who like PPE!! I assumed it wasn’t a very popular major in the US but I just found out that it’s one of the most popular majors at Penn! I’m a UK applicant so I was a bit unsure

@1622343 I hear that it’s one of the most popular majors in the College, but I have hardly found anybody on the forums who are interested in it! I definitely think it would be a fascinated major to have, one of the reasons I want to go to Penn so badly!

@1622343 I have kinda liked PPE too. Why didn’t you apply to Oxford University for it? Pretty impressive majors to get from there.

@turkeybacon cool, what kind or whats ur fav, please share:)

Since an ED acceptance is binding, you can only withdraw if you have financial reasons to do so. This means you need to have submitted your applications (yes, one deadline was 11/15, another 11/1). For those who submitted late, just sit tight. If it turns out you get in, and if it turns out that the financial aid package doesn’t come, at that point, call the financial aid office to see if they can give you more information about when to expect the package. I would not withdraw any applications until I knew my application to UPenn was a go and what the timeline was.

just got a random call from a 215 area code number… picked up but no one answered :open_mouth:

@1150sobremesa political satire mostly  wbu

About 1,300 applicants are accepted in the ED round

@ariley524 Hmm it’s one of the main reasons I was interested too! It really is very fascinating - so many combinations within it. Good luck

@Danny3895 That’s cool!! Did you submit as Undecided or something else then? I did apply to Oxford as well but unfortunately I was unsuccessful. I have other UK offers though, which is great for choice! Also I prefer the way it’s taught at Penn over the UK (flexibility!) - amongst other reasons that why I applied ED to Penn

Ug, I hate myself for letting myself get my hopes up. Down girl! I’ve Ben practice saying, “I was rejected from UPenn” in front of the mirror. I really don’t want to be devastated…

**I found this in another CC thread from a few years ago, I’m not sure if they changed these letters though!

From the Class of 2013 -

DEFER:

Dear XXXX,

After careful consideration of your application to the University of Pennsylvania for the Class of 2013, the Admissions Selection Committee has decided to defer its final decision until the Regular Decision notification date of March 31, 2009. I realize that you must be disappointed by this delay, but I want to assure you that you are still being considered for admission to Penn.

The Admissions Committee chooses this action when we wish to have more time to evaluate your application. While we are clearly impressed by your accomplishments, we must be cautious with the limited number of spaces Penn has available. Because we want to give your candidacy the fullest consideration, we ask that you send us a mid-year report of your first semester grades.

If you have any questions, or if this office can be of any assistance to you during the coming months, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Eric J. Furda
Dean of Admissions

ADMIT:

Dear XXXX,

Congratulations! On behalf of the entire Penn community, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend the University of Pennsylvania as a member of the School of Engineering and Applied Science Class of 2013.

We are delighted that you selected Penn as your first choice for your college experience. You and your fellow applicants are the strongest in Penn’s distinguished history and I look forward to welcoming you to campus as part of the 257th graduating class since Benjamin Franklin founded the University.

Whether through your search for knowledge, devotion to service, or continuing engagement within your community, you will contribute to the vitality of Penn and Philadelphia. In your academic and personal pursuits you instinctively seek out connections across disciplines, and you excel at the highest levels. In all these ways, you already demonstrate commitment to the goals and philosophies of this University. Happily, this is only the beginning!

We are sure of your power to excite our faculty, to enliven our campus and city, and to transform the lives of those you meet. I urge you, as one of the newest members of the Penn community, to make these next four years your springboard for lifelong learning - take risks, explore, discover.

This is the start of your next great journey.

Sincerely,

Eric J. Furda
Dean of Admissions

REJECT:

Dear XXXX,

I am sorry to notify you that after reviewing your application thoroughly, our selection committee is unable to offer you admission to the University of Pennsylvania’s Class of 2013. All aspects of your application, the academic and the co-curricular, were carefully considered.

Perhaps the most difficult part of my job is disappointing thousands of students, whose accomplishments are exciting and whose futures are promising. Most of our applicants are qualified to successfully pursue the rigorous program of study at Penn. However, because of the large number of outstanding applicants, we can admit only a relatively small percentage of those seeking admission.

Thank you for your interest in Penn and I wish you all the best as you pursue your educational goals.

Sincerely,

Eric J. Furda
Dean of Admissions
